Cleaning an Omnivent roof extractor fan
Each year I find it necessary to clean the Omnivent roof extractor fan on my 2007 Sterling Eccles Moonstone. it tends to get caked in sticky cooking residue. The inner vent-grid can easily be removed for washing by removing 4 screws. However I cannot see
any way to remove the fan and the upper vent grid for easy cleaning? Consequently I have to painstakingly clean each slot in the upper grid using a cloth soaked in cleaner whilt stretching upwards - this is painful for the shoulders and neck!! Does anyone
know if the fan and upper grid can be unfastened and dropped down for cleaning please? Possibly the fixing screws are above the upper vent grid and are thus impossible to reach.

Hi Martin I took mine down last summer for the same reason, a bit fiddly but watch the blades I broke two of mine whilst undoing the centre nut that holds the fan on, it seems they get brittle and snap easey after five years or so, cost £20 on Ebay now I
have a lovely white fan and the rest is that yellowy white colour, best of luck..0 -
Thanks for the tip Oneputt. I'll look at the magazine. I'd be interested in a solution to this problem as I've been using an old tooth brush, a cloth in hot soapy water and a cleaning spray but I'm not very satisfied with the results.

Thanks all for your feedback. I have not had a chance to pick up a copy of practical caravan as yet. So had a go yesterday with a paintbrush and diluted flash. Took me an hour and as suspected I had mild shoulder ache and arm ache afterwards!

Are you happy with the results though? Picked up a copy of the mag today. Full page of written text plus diagrams for removal of components for old and new versions.
PS It's in the 'April' edition.
