The problem is generally getting the 12v from the car to the fridge. You need to able to tell if there is power getting to the fridge which is more than just checking the output of the appropriate pins from the 12s plug with a multimeter. Older Electrolux
fridges were fitted with a rocker switch which told you if there was 12 v power to the fridge. I remembering watch ing while the engine was ticking over this light cycling off and on it was mainly off.The problem reported is that with some expensive factory fit towbar wiring the fridge circuit just isn't wired up I think I have heard VW in relation to this.

Chances are that the fridge might not be not wired in to receive the 12v whilst travelling.
There is (was) certainly a problem with the VW kit. I had mine fitted three years ago to a Passat and it took them 4 return visits before they had all the pins wired up correctly. Apparently the "standard fit" is only for road legal ie lights and not for
the auxillaries. Took a demonstaration with a multimeter to convince them to get it right - to be fair to the dealer they did eventually at no extra cost to me.0 -
You can check if it is working on newer ones as if it is not you get an alarm going off. Just hook up and run the engine and swiutch to battery to see. It may be that the power it gets though is not strong enough to maintain the temperature and it is just
slowing down the cooling.0
