Caravan Design
I have a Bailey Cadiz 2015 model the table is stored at the rear of the wardrobe,so when we arrive on site have a cup of tea prepare our meal we then have to empty the wardrobe of clothes to get the table out before we can sit down and enjoy our meal.i just
wonder if the designers at Bailey or for that matter any other manufacturer ever use a caravan for a holiday or a break i think not.

Often thought that people who design caravans aren't caravanners and don't use them.

Our current van and the one on order have/are subject to just that,and when in correspondence with the customer "help line?"have asked just that question,the answers are normally one of two
1 We value feedback from owners?
2 The owners club is a very valuable forum for future model developement!!,
Not once have they admitted that their latest product (when asked) is used as a "sounding board"for next run of said model,although they cover themselvse by putting in the small print as all companies do that they are subject to Bla Bla Bla,
The one we have on order from them is being "tweeked" on next run after (in my opinion)two fairly obviose design flaws that i pointed out to them,
Our current van was also modified by the manufacturer after we bought it and went to a Birmingham show ,and spoke to the company reps on their stand,the following model had the mods built in as standard,

Our Quasar has the table in a section at the front of the kitchen so it is very handy. We were at the glasgow show last week though and saw quite a few examples of where not to puit the table.
The worst fault on our caravan is the front locker fouls the jockey wheel handle unless the handle is very low down. this must have been obvious from the start but still made it onto the finished caravan.

A few months ago someone claiming to be a cravan designer posted a thread on the forum asking for design ideas. Never heard from him again, most unprofessional. Bailey were also seeking volunteers for some form of design review panel - I didn't hear from
them either - so spending my money elsewhere on our next van!0 -
Caravans are not designed to be used, but to look good in brochure pictures and to win awards. Surely we all know that, and then buy on the basis of how much a particular model will need to be modified to suit our requirements.
That said, my current 'van is an old model Bailey - chosen on the above basis and the only "modification" as opposed to an "accessory" has been to put wooden runners on the floor inside cupboards to stop the plastic basket carried there sitting on pipes
and cables.The table, by the way, is in the frontmost cupboad and is still a great nuisance to get out - or put away. So we carry a small folding step stool to use for cups of tea, gin and tonic, etc. Also handy when wiping down windows.

In the second caravan we owned, a Cotswold, the table was stored in the toilet compartment. Easy to get to, but looking back, not very hygenic. The other vans we owned and our latest, Ariva, it is in the wardrobe. I don't have to remove the clothes to
get to it though, just push them to one side. t is only used in the awning, as we have a small table top which pulls out over the front chest of drawers which we find is adequate for just the two of us inside the van. Van designers don't have a clue, though.
I looked at last year's Ariva (ours is 5 yrs old) and the kitchen cupboards are white melamine. I told the rep, "I know in a traditional end kitchen 2 berth especially in a small van, I am sleeping in the kitchen, but I don't want it to look like I am."
Put me right off. But I suppose there is not a lot of changes they can make to that layout to make it any different to earlier years.0 -

Ours is the U2 Cadiz and the table is stored under one of the fixed single beds. Makes it very easy to get out. The beds in the U2 are however a bit narrow, although we have got used to them. As a result of customer feedback they widened them in the U3 and this presumably made it difficult to support the table, so moved it to the wardrobe. I think on balance I would prefer the wider beds.
