Hi everybody, just wondering if anyone out there has had any dealings with this company? They have a caravan that i'm interested in but they are a long way away from me.

Any views would be appreciated,

    Hi Keith, buying any caravan from a dealer so far from home is fraught with difficulties. Something for sure will go wrong with the caravan during the guarantee period and you will have to go all that way to take it back. Be careful.

    Hi eurotraveller, thanks for your reply.Yes that is one problem and they only offer 3 months warranty on a used caravan.We are looking to upgrade ours but we have limited ourselves to upgrading to a newer one of the same make and model but from 2011 onwards.Ours
    is a 2005 model and finding a newer one close to home (north wales) is a problem!

    Hi Keith I agree with the answer you have had think carefully the time and cost implications about travel to rectify any problems that may occur with your new pride and joy..Good look in your search....David

    Hi Keith.

    We bought our current van from them in July 14 after using them to service our previous van when its warrenty ran out and we didnt need to take it back down to the dealers who were 35 miles away.

    They were helpful especially as we needed a lot of replacement parts for our new van.

    I would say tho they were not so successful in changing over our mover onto the new van and we did have to arrange Reich to come and resolve the problems, which were 2 wires needing switching around.

    I like others have said would consider the distance you are away and any associated costs if you need to return to them.

    I have had mixed experiences of Wandahome at South Cave (which is close to us) to the extent that I would certainly not buy a caravan from them.  Don't know if the Knottingley branch is any different but I suspect not. Others may have different views.

    I bought from Yorkshire Caravans at Bawtry and have been delighted with their service.  Yes, it is a bit of a hike for us when servicing / warranty work was required but, fortunately, that's not been that often and on one occasion, we did manage to combine
    a visit to them with a holiday and they did the work while we waited, on the way home. My own view is that it's worth the occasional inconvenience if you're getting the service you deserve / expect.

    Keith, we bought our brand new Lunar from them at the NEC but had to collect it from South Cave, 100 miles from home. It turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. We arrived at the stipulated time to pick up the caravan only to find, as we inspected it, that
    things that had been ordered had not been fitted, even though they were on the order sheet that the salesman had in his hand during the handover. A one hour handover became four hours as they tried to correct their errors. When we got home we found other problems
    that should have been spotted during the (no-existant?) PDI. These needed correcting under warranty that we got our local Lunar dealer to do. An awning that we ordered at the show at the same time as the caravan was also found to have very badly damaged frame
    poles when we got home. The replacements that they sent were also in an unusable state so the whole awning went back for a full credit. Would I use them again? A definite NO.

    Forgot to add that their excuse was "lack of communication between departments". What an excuse!!

    I beleive that the 2 are not connected, Wandahome at Knottingly is a separate business. For what its worth, we bought our very first van from them many years ago and had good service from them.

    But a search of Companies House shows that an officer at one is a Steven Burnley whilst at the other it is a Nigel Burnley????  Delighted that you were happy with Knottingley and perhaps therefore unfair of me to assume that both would reflect my experience
    at South Cave.  Not to be confused with Waudby's on the same site who, in my experience have always provided good service.

    Another bad experience here at the East Yorkshire 'Wandahome', bought a new C/van from them agreed on a price for P/ex signed on the dotted line just to be informed that the P/ex was now damp. They tried to half the payment to me, when I rejected the new
    Van I was told there was a cost to the rejection. Eventually negotiated, I had the 1 problem with them as I never used them at all after that. I was naïve in my trust of them as I knew no different. Approach all transactions with eyes wide open, take your
    time don't sign for anything until you are as near to 100% happy as you can be-don't do a me as naïveté costs, good luckHappy

    The 2 are distinct and different companies. There were family connections, I understand, in the past however there are no direct ties any more and as I live locally to Knottingley I have heard no bad reports about them. Indeed if I had I know we would not
    have spent our money on a new van and awning last year.

    When we bought a van from them a good few years ago they had a facility for servicing the van at our home, ie a mobile service arrangement. Doñ't know if they still do this but worth asking.

    No they dont service away from their dealership.

    The service dept is open Mon-Fri 8.00am- 5.00. Sat 8.30-12.00.

    The sales/shop dept are open all day sat & sun

    Write your comments here...If the warranty they are offering is an aftermarket one, then you may be able to have any work done at your local approved workshop. I am in the situation and successfully had the failed fridge replaced in this way. The only thing
    to watch out for is that the warranty company may have a limit on the hourly rate they will pay out on.

    If I read your post correctly, 3 months warranty on a 2011 van is not much - mine came with 15 months albeit with a premium included in the purchase price (but I've already recovered that...)

    Thank you for all your replies,I'm now thinking that we will give them a miss due to the distance and only 3 months warranty! We will just have to keep looking but being in north wales means that we do have to travel a fair distance to find a decent dealer.
    Ps. The caravan we have was bought in Salop leisure near Shrewsbury who were extremely helpful and hassle free and provided a 12 month warranty!!

    Keith, if your present dealer has given good service then go back there, tell him exactly what new caravan you want, what price you have in mind, and ask if he can find you one . He will have trade contacts.

    they are a swift dealership and I'm looking for a lunar quasar 462 around the 2011-2012 mark and not brand new.Will they search around for us?? We did buy ours from them 2 years ago and they have been very good.We have only been caravaning since then so
    any advice for us novices will be appreciated.Trying to sell ours privately but no interest so far except 3 bogus attempts through the clubs classifieds!!

    Most dealers will search around or sell vans from any manufacturer even if they are not the official dealership. Just check for the conditions of the warranty before committing yourself.

    Yes, I agree with Andy, it's worth talking to your local dealer, tell him you would like to stick with him and can he try and find a Lunar for you and do a deal, ask him for a part exchange price on your present Swift, but don't hand it over to him in advance.

    Just bought a new van from Wandahome Knottingly and sadly had the whole experience tarnished. The trade in value we were offered was undermined by what the salesman described as a known window fault in all Coachman caravans between 2009 and 2015. If that
    was the case why not mention it at the trade in discussion? Additionally the invoice has been manipulated to reposition values. Taking advice on this as it looks like some degree of tax / profit positioning. Will not be using them again. I reckon based on
    the volume they've shifted its worth a considerable amount of cash!

    Wandahome, south cave, when it was Waudbys they were good,they let Wandahome take over the  caravan sales, and a few years ago Howard Waudby sold the shop to Wandahome, a bad move, all the prices went up 20%

    I wont go in their  anymore, and I belive both Wandahome are the same onwers

    Waudbys was an excellent company with helpful and knowledgeable staff but I am afraid it is now Wandahome and now much less than excellent.

    I also think that the South Cave and Knottingley Wandahomes are not the same company but only from what one of South Cave salesmaen told me a couple of years ago. Of the two the Knottingley one appears more professional. I have only used either of them for
    small items.

    The invoice repositioning is done by many car and caravan dealers. If it isnt costing you money and you were happy with the deal I don't see a problem, and precisely what is wrong with legally paying less tax? The window catch issue however does sound dodgy
    and would have pursued that.

    Wandahome (knottingley) and W-h (South Cave) are two separate businesses.  We took delivery of a new Rambler (Elldis based dealer special) from Knottingley in March, ordered at the NEC show in October. We found their staff to be friendly, pleasant and helpful
    at the show and on collection from Knottingley. The new caravan was ready for collection on the agreed day and time and the handover procedure was thorough.

    It would appear that my previous assumption about the two companies being connected was incorrect  as there is now an entry on the Knottingley website explaining the relationship (or lack of it) between the two dealers.
