No Internet ....Scam ! or what
Over the last couple of days we have had phone calls from someone stating this is BT, and he was informing us that our internet was to be switched Off. Would we start up our computer as there was evidence that someone was trying to Hack in to it ,and he would tell us what to do. My wife's reply was how do I know you are BT , this could be a Scam, he then disconnected .
The next day someone rang who stated she was from TalkTalk, and they needed to shut our computer down. My wife said but we are not with TalkTalk, and the call was disconnected.
I wondered if anyone else had received this type of call. Which is obviously a Scam !

Not for a while and then it was someone from Microsoft, supposedly, about an issue with our operating system. As with you wanting access to our computer. Clearly a scam. Now we just don't answer the phone to anything that does not come up with a name In
the phones memory. If it is important enough there is always the answer phone, which cuts in after 20 seconds or so. In general they ring off well before.0 -
Our phone calls are usually from Kevin who works for Microsoft....
Best one, my son in law works behind the scenes for Lloyds Bank and he got one at work on his mobile a couple of weeks ago informing him that the computer he was working at had a virus and that he could help remove it.... Toby started telling him the strength
of the firewall and other protection systems at Lloyds before the phone went dead...0 -
I had a call yesterday asking to speak to Mr or Mrs H - So I read him the total riot act for assuming there was a Mr in the house! One of my bugbears - think of all the bereaved ladies you idiot! So he said he thought he better leave me alone - no says
I you better tell me why you are calling - surprise surprise he was trying to sell me something but I do hope he won't ASSume there is a couple in the house. He knew enough to have a name - so presumably someone had sold my details but they certainly hadn't
sold Mr and Mrs H - the OH has a military rank and never lived here!I almost fell for the Microsoft on as I had contacted Curry's who had just sold me the laptop - and I was having a problem with it - but I stopped him dead when he asked to access the computer.

While having my computer looked at on Monday another customer said she had lost all the icons off her home page. She was a BT customer and apparently there is a scam running where a third party gets control of your computer and then demands money to fix
it. Don't understand exactly how it works. Apparently it happens with other ISP's0
