Wait for the Doc, or go to the Vet?
Walking my dog through a cloud of haymaking dust in a field yesterday an irritating speck entered my eye. This morning it has clearly caused a swelling/stye and nasty infection inside my lower lid so I'll have to ask the chemist for advice as my local health
centre won't be open til Monday and in any case, if I need one I'd probably not get an appointment for a couple of days.
My point is that it seems bizarre that if it was my dog I'd be able to take him to my vet today. I know I'd have to pay for that private service but then I do get seen (eventually) with the NHS through my taxes, which I pay every month whether I need the
service or not (or whether I've ever contributed or not).
Just sayin' like.

yes Spriddler I hope you manage to clear it up - I didn't realise quite how serious it can be to scratch the inner eye as it were. Until I had an incident with a pump action cleaner - fell into the sink the wrong way up and shot me in the eye. I was sent
straight to the doctor when I phoned the company about it.As you say the animals seem to be better catered for in some ways - particularly end of life care - but that would be a can of worms!

Not sure where you live in West Sussex Spriddler, but there are plenty of NHS walk in centres listed. Hope it gets sorted quickly for you.

That's good. Take a book, sometimes the wait can be a tad long, depending on drunks, those requiring emergency contraception and sports injuries! Sunday's are usually the worst days, but usually a lot less fraught than A&E.

So would you rather be vetted by the doctor or doctored by the vet?

Result!
Only had to wait ten minutes. Doc had a good look for any remaining debris with a magnifying light and said there was snout there now but an infection and sent me away with a tube of anti-biotic oinkment.
Thanks.
(At least, Navigateur, he didn't tell me to get down on all fours )

Good result then ,NHS not that bad and free
Yes, absolutely first class..............................although I have to disagreee that it's 'free'. We contribute part of our income every month to a scheme which is exactly as they do in France and Germany except they have private health insurers, whilst ours is nationalised.
Waddever, I'm happy.

Have to say I was not aware of these 'walk-in-centres' until quite recently. We were camping near Hereford when wife suddenly developed shingles. Fortunately I had read the site information board where the service was 'advertised'.
(Apparently everyone locally knows it as the 'Asda walk in' .... just because it happens to be located in part of the same building as a huge Asda).
I was impressed also that when wife subsequently went to her own GP, a few days later he already had the report from Hereford.

We've had a walk-in centre for years .... I remember taking my daughter there 20 yrs or so ago, one Sunday morning.
They'll never meet their waiting targets.
My mum left me outside Boots in my pram nearly 70 years ago and caught the bus home

My Mum left me outside the local papershop in my pram ... not quite that long ago though
These days I'm anxious about my dog being stolen when leaving him unattended whilst I go into a shop in my village.
