The new £5 Note!
Well what do you think? Ive had four in general use (Change) now. Quite like them really, but I think they are feeling a bit thin and flimsy, and consider that they would have felt better if they had been made to feel a bit more substantial, however I understand that they are actually much stronger than the old paper ones. IMHO, The colour is a bit weak, so wish they had been produced a bit richer in that respect. However despite those reservations, we had better get used to them pretty quick because the old ones cease to be legal tender in May next year, - not that far ahead, so it is quite clear that the forthcoming change over will be very quick. The £10 and £20 will follow on quite soon thereafter.

I haven’t seen any yet. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of £5 notes in circulation. ATM’s that give out £5 notes are very rare and that’s where I get cash from.

I remember the old Dutch notes were plastic before they went over to the Euro.

I know they are out there somewhere. But haven't received one or seen one , as for cash machines , I'm sure I read somewhere that it will be a rather long time before machines are changed over,
I wonder how many are holding on to them as they did with all new coins. My hubby have saved all his £2 coins , first cashed
in with £1,500 and many hundreds at intervals since0 -
We have had them for a while up here as Scottish banks do their own notes. By

I've got a series of old pristine ten bob notes somewhere safe. Trouble is I can't remember where I put them.

Strange, the issue does seem very patchy. My local convenience store (Co-op) apparently had a pack of 250 on the first day and have been issuing in general change ever since.
As I said the final day for the old fiver is only next May which is a short period compared with other new notes in the past. So don't fret you'll be getting them soon!

On ebay today apparently they are asking for a starting bid of £200 For a low serial number £5 note , also the Bank of England are holding an auction day for low serial numbered notes that they have held back

Saw one today in our village shop, in fact it was the only one in the till and we all had a look at it, I thought it was quite a bright colour.
I hear the Bof E wants us to say goodbye to the penny, would you miss that? Are you like me, I put most small change in a savings jar.

Our small change (shrapnel ) has hubby calls it goes into a jar to brue
if they get rid of the 1 pence and 5 pence I bet everything goes up and not down just like they did when they got rid of the 1/2 pence

I'm not suggesting that they get rid of the 5p piece because as RB says that will give the excuse to up prices. What I do think is required is a re design. The current coin is just too small and gives older and often arthritic fingers quite a bit of difficulty.
It needs looking at from an ergonomic viewpoint!TF

Surely it's a similar size to a tanner ... and I'm sure you managed with them

We were all younger then.

Still not seen one or any of our friends

Not seen one yet, but apparently they are meant to last longer than the old ones.
......however there are conflicting reports that say this is a load of rubbish. Two pasties, a cake and a bottle of coke and it was gone. (cribbed from a Facebook post!)

Got one from a machine this P.M, excellent. Plastic feel but very flexible, it has a near clear panel that you can see your finger thru. Crisp colours. I think they're excellent. The £10 & £20 are next

Deliberately chaged 3 £20 at three different stores today hoping I would get one
