    I find Windows 10 very good on my laptop but cannot compare as my phone and tablet are both Apple which Infind excellent and would not go back to Andoid.

    We are totally Apple, Phone, Pad and Mac book. Not interested in going back to Windows or Android. Just find everything easier and more intuitive.

    Forgive my ignorance but is Android different from Windows and Apple? If so how much does it cost and how often do they update their O.S.?

    They are totally different operating systems, RF.

    The cost question isn't answerable because it depends on what you want to buy. Updates are issued when necessary. It's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string?'.

    Indeed it is.

    For reference, RF, Windows operating system is used by Microsoft, iOS and OS X are used by Apple, and Android by Google.

    I'm trying out the new Linux Mint at the moment (writing this on Win 10) I must say Linux is getting easier to use and  it is very fast on an old laptop I'm using it on.  Big advantage of Linux is that hundreds of software programs are free.

    The only problem, perhaps, with a Windows tablet is that you won't have the choice of apps that you do with either Apple or Android. I much prefer my Android phone to the iPhone I was loaned some time back. I doubt I would ever buy a tablet, of either variety,
    as a main computer. You could think about a compromise if you wanted to stick with Windows and that is a convertable laptop. A little bit bulkier than a tablet but you have the choice of using it as a tablet or a laptop. I have an HP convertable which I use
    in the motorhome although in truth I nearly always use it as a laptop.

    As a rule of thumb, I would recommend  Android for any tablets or phones, Windows for any Laptop or PC. And Apple for those who don't care about value for money.

    Windows 10 is the invention of satan.  It is, IMO, just about the worst, bloated, oversold OS to come from Microsoft.  It's like buying a house with a large overgrown garden.  You have to prune ruthlessly, kill the weeds and clear out the rubbish before
    you can start to see what you've got.

    I've largely switched to Ubuntu 16.04 which is leaner and faster - and free. I'd avoid windows on all devices.

    Value for money is a subjective judgement. If you place a high value on ease of use, speed to boot, lack of interruptions when downloading upgrades, easy interconnectivity, alignment of data across phone, pad and laptop, then you'll probably chose Apple
    - if you can afford the premium price.

    I'm a fan of Android.  My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.  Large screen and a stylus for when my fingers are too large.  I generally find the stylus extremely useful and android appears to be more 'flexible' than Apple.  I am considering upgrading to a
    Note 7 soon. 

    I can give or take Windows, but have never had a Mac.  Too expensive for me.

    I moved from Windows to Apple 3 years ago and there is a learning curve. I like the way Apple integrates between laptop, ipad and Iphone. For example something entered on one is then instantly available to see on the other. My laptop battery last about 10
    hours, my old windows PC averaged about 2 hours and took a long time to boot up. My Iphone gets a signal with the same Voda network where my previous Samsung Galaxy did not. I agree Apple is overpriced and there are some Apps on android which are not available
    on Apple. Its a personal choice but most folk who have gone from Windows to Apple don't change back.
