Are you eligible for the Winter fuel allowance Malc? it will pay for the gas Money Mouth

Malcolm use should have been eligible for winter fuel payment before your 65th birthday. It goes/went with woman's retirement age 60 and going up gradually. OH has certainly had it for last couple of years. In fact letter to say its on its way yesterday.
Checking bank for other reasons its already been credited. . £200 for first to reach  'the age' spilt for couples when younger one reaches it. Then its had each. Check it out, don't think you can back date. That's your morning sorted

Once actually in receipt of the State Pension, I think the WFA is paid automatically?   It's only necessary to claim it if you qualify before your own pension age.

I think it can often be later in the winter before you get it when it is your first year.

No sign of ours yet, and no letter yet either.

Write your comments here...So does that mean it will be automatically added to my next pension payment?

You may well be right. OH was 65 this month so must have registered a claim before

I think when I first got mine the women's pension age was still 60, so I must have had to apply.......so long ago I have forgotten!

Malcolm, look out for your extra £10 Christmas Bonus, usually added to the December amount without any explanation.

Both the bonus and the WFA are outside of  tax, so do not include them on your Self Assessment.

Write your comments here...That's even better!

Quite a blustery day with more wind and rain forecast, just looking at some of the damage to statics in Wales. It looks like batten down the hatch weather for the next few days.

I've got well organised this year, Christmas cards nearly done, post for overseas sorted, this is too good to be true, I wonder what I've forgotten?! Happy

Not added to pension. Paid as a one off, letter to advise its coming. £10 bonus just arrives in account as a separate entry too.

Looking at the weather charts tonight glad not to be anywhere on the channel and other waters .  We had a terrific rain and wind storm early afternoon, so much rain coming off the shed roof and so dark it set the senors off on the outside lights!!

We've had heavy rain too on and off all day today.

After the lunchtime orders were over, we had a quiet afternoon from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and since then it's gone manic.

I watched the Christmas movie on Channel 5 and also saw some of the Antiques road show. I also watched a Place in the Sun.

Don't know about self assessment so not certain but I thought all income should be declared taxable or not????

No, certain "benefits" are not taxable, so you should not put them down as income on your tax return.........best not to confuse the taxman!

No.   It will arrive as a separate payment.  You should get a letter telling you you are getting it, but sometimes the money arrives in the bank before the lettexr arrives.

Possibly different depending on how your pension is paid.

Ours are paid weekly, in advance, so the first (I think) week in December there is £10 extra in each of our amounts......no explanation.

Sorry, my answer repeated what someone had already said about the Winter Fuel Allowance Payment - but perhaps I should add that if you are married, or live with someone and both of you are in receipt of a pension, only one payment of £200 is made and usually split between each partner.  We each receive £100 and our letters both arrived today but there is no money in the bank yet.

OH got WFA for the last 2 winters, yet he only qualified for the state pension in July of this year when he was 65. MM I think you got yours in August, how come you didn't get WFA last year? We got a letter today saying that my Mum still gets WFA even though
she is in a care home, now reduced to £150. OH hasn't received a letter yet for his WFA for this year yet. I should also qualify this year as I started getting my pension at the begining of Nov. doesn't make any differance though to how much you get.

Your address will still get £200 as £100 each. So you don't have to beg for half this year . My OH definitely had at least two he was 65 this November.

couple of weeks ago when the site was full during half turn.

    No.

The £10 Christmas Bonus has been paid to pensioners ( and  a few other benefits recipients) for many years, I can remember MIL getting it back in the 80's if not earlier.

Having looked it up it started in 1972.

When first introduced, £10 was a worthwhile amount, but it has never been increased.
