I  don't  think  the  doctors  get  a  choice  in  this,  the  Annual  Flu  Jab  is  worked  out  by  the  NHS  etc  from  what  ever  is  doing  the  rounds  in  the  world  as  a  whole or  so  I  understand.  Some  years  the  crafty  little  Bug  does
a  side step  and  thats  when  the  out-breaks  occur,  but  generally  they  seem  to  get  it  reasonably  effective.  BUT  as  you  say  the  Flu  can  be  a  viscious  illness  and  anything  that helps  avoid  it  has  got  to  be  good
    I M H O.

    Brian

But how do you know that it's reasonably effective, Brian?

Plenty of people who have never had a flue jab don't get flue either.

Having things injected into me isn't for me, I have to say.

I just checked on the map for the planned route to get to the NEC tomorrow. It says journey time two hours fifty minutes from here up the A24, M25, M40 and then M6 toll motorway. So I reckon 4 to 5 hours with stops. We plan to stop at the Cobham Services on the M25 for lunch and then another stop later for a tea break.

Quite  understand  your  point  of  view,  Ian.

However  the  efficiency  of  the  jab  can  only  be  calculated  after  the  'season'  is  over  --  if  this  year  is  a  bad  year  then  non-jabbed  folk  may  be  in  danger  of  catching   Flu,  but  if  it's  a  mild  year  then  we  may  never
    know,  will  we .

But  please,  please  dont  forget  who  the  Anti-flu  is  targetted  at  ==>  Elderly  +  ailing +  with  weakened  immune  systems  for  what  ever  reason.

I  hope  you  have  a  jab  free  &  flu  free  winter  !Wink

That must be almost 170 miles, you will struggle to average over 50mph on a Monday, so probably nearer 3hours 20 minutes driving.  For us just an hour or so  break for lunch would suffice, so 4 1/2to 5 hours should be plenty.

Hate stopping in services any more often than necessary, invariably smelly and noisy!

Lovely day here so far, will be going to mend some outside  lights at the Guide Hall soon, so it better stay like that!

Appointments received for flu vaccinations on the 27th.  For a change, we will actually be home then.

It started out a lovely day here too, bright and sunny not a cloud in the sky, gone a bit dull nowFrown

Busy sorting out and unpacking the suitcases and putting the washing on, not much to do as I did a wash while at the villa.

Need to go out and do a big shop when I take Mum back to the home, fridge is empty, just grabbed the essentials on our way home yesterday.

OH is busy emptying his shed of everything, contents now on the side deck, new shed to be delivered on Thursday. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon or TuesdayBIL will come out and help him to demolish the old one and take it to the skip. With a bit of luck most
of the contents will go to the skip aswellLaughing (don't tell him I said that)

Mille hope your cat gets better soon and you can get away.

Bakers have a good time away, we saw the lights in Blackpool a few years ago  and enjoyed the whole experiance, we were blessed with good weather for the 3 days that we were there so it does make a differance.

All those going to the NEC leave your wallets at home Wink seriously, have a good time wish we could have fitted it in but no can do this year.

Malcolm you need the M42 after the M40 for the NEC, not the M 6 toll.

We flew over the Lakes yesterday and it was lovely weather there (sorry, Bob!)

Flew down the length of the lakes then turned east and past low over the Ribblehead viaduct, then across to Malham Tarn and Malham Cove, then down towards Skipton and back to base. Lovely! Smile

My query re the flu jab was  - if strain 'A' is given to me and strain 'B' is prevalen  ,how is the jab going to protect me and as the flu season hasn't started yet how do we know which will arrive this year? Statistical odds doesn't seem to cut it!

I don't think the NHS just make a guess at it redface. I am pretty sure a lot of research goes into deciding which strain of flu will be prevalent. Sometimes they do get it wrong but most years it works very well. The only time I haven't had the jab (through
sheer laziness) I got a bad dose of flu so now make sure I get it every year.

Now here is my problem, NTH, how does my doctor know which flu jab to give me, when there is currently no evidence as to which strain of the virus will be prevalent this year? MOH got hers two days ago and has since gone down with the flu, the symptons are
distressing.  Mind you I am not very good at nursing so that probably doesn't help her situation either.

We've had ours yesterday and apart from feelig where the injection wnt in we've no adverse reaction. So I think our doctors know just the right jab to give.

Does that mean you didn't get anything? Glad you had a good day out with the boys. We've not visited the MK one, but will do some time, no doubt!Yell

NICE makes the flu jab strain decision based upon best evidence at the time. Sometimes it goes totally wrong but in order to have sufficient stocks a decision has to be made

    Who said best guess?

They offered me an extra jjab this year when I had my flu jab.  I think the nuse said it was a new jab that I ncluded sepsis?  I took them up on their kind offer!
