Malcolm, are caravan air conditioning units not as robust as domestic ones, i.e. - not intended to be used all day and every day?

P.S you can probably tell I know nothing about air con.,

P.S. 2. It will soon  be winter anyway and you'll just need the heating!

Write your comments here...I know even less about it than you do, Goldie. I used to think it was ok to use it all the time!

It's best to leave them off for a few months over the summer, Malcolm. Prevents them from over working.

Write your comments here...You're joking, Ian. It's no use when it's switched off. Although perhaps you could restrict usage to the times when it's really hot. It's not too bad at the moment.

They are robust, but they do need looking after.

Huge cop-out for dealer who fitted it to refuse to service it IMO.  Our dealer was similar, did not even test it during the service, so when we got to Italy, where it was very hot, we realised the air con had stopped cooling (3 years old).

It was eventually narrowed down to it having somehow lost all the coolant fluid.  Then Dometic, after a long time, admitted that nobody in UK could re-gas it, not even themselves.

As a result, we eventually, after a year,  got help from a MH dealer who pulled a few strings and twisted several arms and got us a brand new unit at no cost.  It's still going strong 4 years on.

It is a sad fact that unless you can understand and fix things yourself, you are at a huge disadvantage as a caravan or MH owner.  Lots of little things can go wrong, and if you have no mechanical/electrical/structural knowledge, you need to pay someone
to fix things, which can be expensive.

The air con units can be used at will, but they do need to be maintained......filters cleaned, outlets cleaned.   So if you have no clue about these things you need to ensure that someone else does it for you.....or things will stop working as they should.

Fine for most of the day, although we did get caught in a couple of showers today. Drove over to Forest of Dean and had an hour walk before I went off on my bike and rode the Red Trail (well rode most of it) from the cycle centre. Think I'm getting a bit
old for all this hard work, although I would guess that not many 70+yr olds do the route without touching down. Suspect I need a new lighter bike. Rode back to the car for a bite to eat and then we went out for another hour or so walk around part of the Sculpture
    Trail.

Write your comments here...I hear Flyte was complaining that his owner has far too much energy and he was hoping to a more sedate pace of life. These spaniels just don't have the lasting power do they?Happy

He's pacing up and down at the moment waiting to go out again. No rest for the wicked!!

H&T and MH, have a nice time away in the lovely weatherSmile

Malcolm, when you are using it do you leave it on all day, even when you are out and overnight?

Write your comments here...We usually switch it off when we go out but leave it on overnight.

On the advice of our dealer, we do the opposite.

His parents spend a lot of time in Spain, have the same van as us and the same aircon.  He said they leave it on all day on low when out, stops the van ever getting too hot, so in the evening/night when the temperature is lower, they can turn it off, they
never need to use it overnight.

We have adopted the same method.  On low it will not disturb the neighbours.  When we go out for the day we set the Alde heating to 16 degrees and the air con to 22 degrees and low fan.  So all possibilities covered!

Works well. we never need to use the air con overnight.

A shed is a VERY useful thingTG!

So are beds too, of course.

I would hold out for parity.....shed and bed.

..Well we both got what we wanted Smile Shed ordered and will be delivered and fitted mid October.  Bed seen and will be ordered tomorrow, OH had to go to Physio so didn't have time to do it today. KJ the shed he has is falling down we have had 25 years use out of it so can'tcomplaining, the new one is much more sturdy and he is going to fit it out better for working inWink

Sounds good!  Our shed is 27 years old, but only used for storing garden tools and furniture, my "cave" is the garage.

Used to get 2 cars in there, but since 2006 no car has got in, due first to repairs, then clutter, then me taking it over for my wood turning.

I really should declutter and tidy it, OH has for several years refused to set foot in there, but there always seems to be many more interesting things to do!  Innocent

Just popped in to say a quick hello.  We're still in Tuscany at present and will leave on Saturday morning to go for a one night stay in Italy near the Frejus tunnel.  Off to Sienna tomorrow having done Pisa, Florence and Vinci earlier on in the week.  Really
hot today but expecting a thunderstorm tomorrow.

    Best wishes

Write your comments here...We had the servicing of the caravan done by a mobile servicing that came to the site to do it but they said that they could only service the caravan not the air-conditioner. Truma said that our own dealer would be able to do it.
We can't easily take it to the dealer where we purchased the caravan because they are in Chipping Sodbury which is 150 miles away.

Suggestion Malcolm......have a few days holiday up near Chipping Sodbury, and get the caravan fixed while you're there.

You could do that instead of one of your tenting breaks.....?

Give Mrs Mehta a well earned break.

Write your comments here...We wish! The reality is that dinner2go won't give us the time off because of no other delivery drivers. The other driver left not long ago. Even if they did, it would mean two days lost pay plus £84 fuel cost to get there and back
plus site fees of £20 a night. I would need a credit card with no limit to manage that!

You're self employed Malcolm. You can take whatever time off you choose.

Employers only get the luxury of telling you what you can and can't do when they employ you. A concept that appears alien to dinnertogo.

Write your comments here...That's right. He left before and then came back a week later. However, the boss seems to be convinced that this time he's gone forever! He and the boss never got on with each other so the boss prefers it this way.

I'm not going to get into a discussion with you because you don't really take things on board but...

If you are working for only one 'client' and they are dictating whether you can take time off then you may find that in the eyes of HMRC you are deemed employed.  This is because some employers force their 'employees' to be self-employed to avoid paying
tax, NI and other employer responsibilities.

But you know this already because Ian has told you

It's still busy here down on the farm. When our son arranged his week off (mainly dictated by two days volunteering at Countryfile Live and a day judging at Oswestry Show), I'm sure he said "nothing much will calve . . ". Since Sunday six cows have calved
(three today) and I can hear another bellowing now.

But tonight, as long as OH is done in time, we're going out! We won't completly escape farming, as it's to a Barbecue run by our Vet practice. Looking at the most recent bill I think we should make sure we eat and drink plenty.
