So it didn't win....
....Boaty McBoatface, I mean. They thought it was liable to hold them up to ridicule if they picked that name. Ha Ha Ha! No one but themselves takes them seriously and they can't see it?
Oh well a bit of fun whilst it lasted

In all fairness to name it after the great David Atenbouurgh was the right choice, better for him to be living and seeing it rather than doing the honour after his death,
Those involed in the other name had an excellent run and who knows there might be a Tug or something similar that will take the name on

Just a pity that some of the programs that Attenborogh does seems to be from the comfort of an armchair rather than actually visitng the area.
He picked an area where I had lived and had extensive knowledge. He was very inaccurate with a number of descriptions especially of the location of rivers and other aspects. the warm current is the Mozambique current and not Agulhas current. The western
Cape has loads of rainfall and not a little. The Great whites to which he refer are off seal island in False Bay and not the Atlantic ocean. There were many more such errors. The program was something to do with the Cape in Africa.Otherwise I enjoy his programs, but at the back of mind I am wondering if he got it correct. My son has done a number of fatures for National Geographic so maybe he coudl repalce Attenborough. LOL!

...and the name of the ship couldn't happen to a better man - Sir David Attenborough
Absolutely right tombar. The label "legend" is used all too loosely these days, but Sir David is one of the true legends of TV - a brilliant example of someone who deserves whatever the BBC deem suitable to pay him.

The often used-'National Treasure' is well earned in my opinion In Sir DA's case. If I see His name on anything I watch it, guaranteeing an enjoyable programme-'RSS Sir David Attenborough' excellent choice of name

Yep, right choice and an excellent and knowledgeable TV presenter. A great man.
