Rugby - The banning of Tackles?
Today the various Media outlets were carrying a story about the fact that the British Medical Authorities are putting pressure on the Govt to ban tackling in school level Rugby!!
The suggestion is that the poor boys are being hurt in the way the game is played and that new rules should be brought in to prevent the dangerous practise of tackling.
I can understand what they are saying but frankly I fear that this could result in the end of British Rugby in the long term.
I do not follow Rugby and do not claim to understand the rules, but the Rugby players that I have met, and their followers, are some of our finest sportsmen. They learned their art at an early stage at school, and I believe that if this proposal is followed we might as well give up.
Swimming is potentially dangerous too, so perhaps we should in future teach it in soft ball pools. On the subject of soft balls. Perhaps we should make a stance and demand that cricket is played useing red colored tennis balls.
Life itself is dangerous and we simply cannot wrap our children up in cotten wool all their life. If we do we threaten their entire character development.

Surely teaching children at a young age how to tackle correctly will ensure that as they grow older they'll be in less danger of serious injury when playing against much heavier opponents.
