This a great example of 25 years progress in communication. The phone on the left is the new Samsung galaxy Edge belonging too the O/H and costs around £600 to buy i believeHappy. The monster on the right is the Motorola 4800x from 1989 and would have cost around £3000 Surprised to buy back then.It also weighed in at around 8lbs would take at least 8 hours too charge (from a car cigarette lighter socket) and if you were lucky the battery would last until lunchtime Sad on the old analogue network ofcourse.

Ah but the big fella never got calls asking if you'd been mis-sold insurance, or congratulating you on "winning" a non-existant holiday in a competition you never entered.  Also, now everyone in tne world has a mobile, most of them with a camera included,
how come we still haven't seen a clear, unambiguous photo of a UFO or a ghost?

A very good post there V9, here's my reply.

On the left is my old Canon 100 from 1991, price then £500, on the right is my second Canon body from 2016, price £550. Looking at them there's not much difference in looks or price but of course it's all underneath.

Yes very little cosmetic difference in the camera,s or the price. What has made a real difference in mobile phone advancement has been the improvement in recharable battery technology.

and I would suggest in all 'mobile' devices,  tablets. laptops...and of course now including cars.

In the Canon 100 you had non rechargeable batteries which lasted about 150 photos then you had to buy another one, and I seem to remember they were about £5. On the newer camera  the rechargable battery lasts about 500. That's actually viewed as below average as my other body (a 70D) I get about 800 - 900 photos.
