Briang, It is quite obvious to me that you have never been in the situation of having to make rapid decisions often involving life or serious injury, or you wouldn't be making your outrageous allegations.

Well I have, and I know that several others on this forum have too. I think I can say that given the circumstances obtaining at the time, what had already occurred, and the potential for a very serious accident, the officer took the only course of action really open to him.  I am also pretty sure that afterwards he also felt pretty bloody about what the situation required him to do, and such discussions as this, - carried out by a load of Armchair Experts will not help!

It still doesn't alter the fact that he  killed an animal. End of.

And quite possibly saved the life or possible injury of a driver/passenger. End of.

There was an alternative don't do it. It seems to me that the police can do whatever they want.

I would answer that as yes if it involves saving the lives of others. Slightly off topic Briang if that dog had attacked and had seriously hurt or killed a child and the police had killed it would you still feel the same.

We are not talking about other things here it is about deliberately running over and killing a animal. END OF.

Slightly off to one side of the topic, but it seems very odd that this thread, and this thread alone, about "dogs" has not been closed and the discussion moved to the special "catach-all" dog thread.

How many of us would be daft enough to swerve to avoid a dog whilst towing a caravan at 60 MPH.

    Not me.

I am glad your so sure. Given a second to think, no I would not and didn't, I would just break to minimise impact. However, if something dashes in front, particularly from your peripheral vision, it is all to easy to react instinctively.

Hi Navigateur - the "catch-all" discussion I think you are referring to is in UK Sites & Touring and covers discussions about dogs on Club Sites.

This discussion is not about dogs on Club Sites. In fact it could be argued that the main subject here is actually the action taken by the police in a specific instance.

    David

If you Google "shot badgers dumped on roads" you'll be surprised at what you find.

Either that - or the badgers are run over but always seem to make it to the side to die eh?

    Wink

    Cheers

Once evidence is produced eg pieces of cartridges in the corpse, accusations of "conspiracy theory" don't stand up. Unless of course someone is saying they were shot after they were run over!

AD, you are very lucky to have such a high number of Badgers to withstand that level of losses & yet maintain a presence. The Sett must be really huge.

How do you know it's a different badger each day, AD, and not yesterday's or the day before's?

A friend in Dorset with very close connections to the agricultural industry in Dorset has told me that shooting then dumping badgers on the side of the road is common practice in their area because of the reputed devastation of badger carried TB. I often
wonder to what degree deer also carry TB and they range over the same land that badgers do.

They tend to get a bit flatter each day, its what happens when cars run over them.

    Of course......Sticking Tongue Out

I am commenting on a stretch of the A500 from M6 J16 to the outskirts of Nantwich Cheshire, about 8 miles. The road passes through farmland all the way and its an unusual day when there is not at least one dead badger .This is the main road from M6 towards
Wales and Holyhead and although I dont know what the size of the Badger population is  I can see that any one who tries to cross that road "badger speed" is unlikely to make it. Hence my conviction that they are being run over.

Ah, I see. So its not in your Village it's over an 8 mile stretch of road. The road no doubt built over a historic Badger trail. ThanksSmile

This thread seems to have gone way off course ( Thankfully).

An indication that it has run its course anyway?

If it has it will gradually vanish off the page, TF, as these things do.
