Mods, I guess that you will decide to move this to a site where many will not see it. But in Honour of this great man i do request that you at least leave it be for a short period to allow people to see it!

In a period of many sad losses, tonight I record and mourn the loss of one of Englands true Aviators !

"Winkle' was quite possibly our finest test pilot. He was certainly the best Royal Navy fleet air arm pilot.  He earned his reputation in the late 40's and through the 50's and 60's as our finest Test Pilot, all at a time when we were losing  test pilots on the early Jets at the rate of one a month.

Remember in those days Test Pilots were real "Test' pilots, and were called upon to take new designs up for their first flights.  This was long before computers and flight simulators took the initial risk out of it!

Eric was a quiet man, and many will not know of the outstanding contribution that this man made to Englands reputation  of producing the very best in Aviation excellance!

TF

The report of the passing of this great man has been posted in the Good Wishes Section so, to avoid duplication, I'll close this thread and ask people to post their thoughts here.

People will still see your post as you hopeTF but can post in the other thread.

    Many Thanks.
