Why have ASDA done this?

ASDA have reportedly removed food bank and animal shelter donation points from its stores. Now regardless of the rights and wrongs of food banks (please don't make this political) why would they do this? There's no compulsion on customers to use them and they seem like a good way to donate to the charities.

I think this is rather mean spirited from a company which makes huge profits. Hopefully other supermarkets will not go down the same route.

From what I have read I think ASDA are giving an explanation next week with possible alternatives? They have just announced some of their worse sales results so I would have thought they need to keep their customers onside.
