Sky contract
. Took out a 12month contract in Jan 2015 to get a disc and box. Contract now expired.Dont want any Sky programmes. Still get Freeview and the full BT Sports. However can not now record programmes.I covered this initially and was assured I would get everything
less Sky programmes at the end of the contract. No more fees.Jst cant get through to Sky by phone or on line chat (Busy).Anyone similar experience and any ideas how I can continue to record?

Sorry Fisherman but if you are not paying sky for even the smallest subscription you will not be able to record on the sky box. We stopped our sky subscrition years ago so can no longer record using the sky box however our small tv has a usb port so we use
that to record onto a portable hard drive.0 -
Also you probably can't watch any record already made

I shall watch this with interest. My Sky contract expires next April and I was wondering whether or not they took the box away?
As for continuing to record I can use a Humax recorder on the standard Free View system i.e normal ariel.
after your 12 month contract expires the sky box is yours , I have just upgraded my sky box and when the engineer came to change it over ,he said ,sell it on e-bay, it's yours

I believe my BT Sport comes via the Sky card.Dont know what the connection is.I also believe that if I switched to say Humax I could no longer get BT Sports through that box. The USB Port looks interesting as an alternative. How do you work it?

We downsized to a bungalow in October. There was a SKY dish and associated cabling to 3 of the rooms. I decided to remove everything as I prefer Freeview.
The cabling is in the bin and the dish and mounting bracket are in the back garden awaiting the next trip to the council tip.------------- Unless of course, somebody wants them for free.

Our sky setup is in one of the bedrooms that belonged to the boys when they lived at home. We use the tv from the van as it has freesat built into it, the OH uncoupled the sky+ box and used the sky cables to connect to the van tv. The Celo tv has a built
in usb port on the side of it, just plug in a portable hard drive and record using the program planner, the cello tv is only a single tuner so you can't watch another channel at the same time (doesn't matter to us) but I suppose your tv will be in the lounge
and you would like to retain full use of it. As far as I know you won't be able to use the sky+ box and a USB port together, unless someone knows differant. We don't use the sky+ box in the lounge as we have 200+ freeview channels, for us the usb works as
it lets us record lots of programs for taking away with us abroad.0 -
Beware of Sky. Eventually got through. They insist I pay £21-50 before any discussion on any services. Despitet he fact I had a 12 month fixed cntract they say they expected me to give them 21ays notice to terminate. Impasse at present.

You could have plugged a FreeSat box straight into that setup.
I've got a Sky box, but I've fitted a multiple LNB to the dish and run a couple of FreeSat boxes as well, one of them being a hard disk recorder (Panasonic).
Very glad of this setup, last hurricane blew my Freeview TV aerial down.

I have looked for an alternative to the sky box but not found one that can be connected to the dish. BT only supply a box that fits an aerial..Anyone know of a Freeview and recording box that I can substutute for the Sky Box. If it can take BT Sports even
better.0 -

better.Humax make excellent freesat receivers that have similar functionality to the Sky+ box. I think they used to make one that was capable of recieving both Freesat and Freeview, but I am a bit out of touch now so not sure if they still produce one. Connects
direct to the sky dish. Also the humax boxes have all the catch up functions (BBC Iplayer etc) You wont get BT sport though.Have a look on some of the AV forums, they are a very useful source of information.
