Decluttering ?
My wife decided to start as she says decluttering our clothing draws and wardrobes. The excess we were sending to our local charity shop , on finding I had 71 pairs of socks in my sock draw, it made me wonder how many other people had kept adding to their
clothing and how many they had kept unnoticed ?

My hubby has 14 pks of 3/5 pairs of socks unopened , how do I know ? After reading your post I went and counted , He also has 5 pks of pants unopened
I have been known to make the comment that hubby changes his cars more than changing his socks and pants

when we retired almost 5 years ago we had a big sort out, anything that had been worn at work I tossed. OH is a little more attached to his things so
its been a long process I'm afraid. We have however agreed that when buying anything new, first ask so what am I going to throw away in its place. This has slowed down his buying a bit as he is so reluctant to throw anything
Mind you he doesn't have the amount of socks and pants as you 2 have.0 -
I must admit I am guilty of keeping clothes that I hardly wear anymore, I do clear out from time to time but not enough. Your post has got me thinking that I might need a clear out soon I'm sure SWMBO will take great pleasure in throwing out some of my old clothes lol

Since retiring OH has hardly ever worn a suit or his highland gear, (kilt/trews) dress jackets/trousers and shoes/brogues. Pretty much the same for me skirts/dresses evening wear, can't remember the last time I wore a pair of high heels, must get out more Wardrobes
are still full to bursting in our room yet all these clothes are in the spare room, really need another declutter session.0 -
.... OH is a little more attached to his things ...
I found a picture of myself online from summer 2008 wearing a fleece that I still wear from time to time .....
We can beat this, both attached to two fleeces we've had for about 15 years
we use them when out walking and keep newer ones for other things!

Have been up in the loft this week - as a result can almost see the far end of it!
Local charity shops have benefitted along with a heavily preggers niece.
Just got to keep the wife's attention on the job in hand and we will clear the lot - I wish!

i won't claim that I don't have a lot of stuff, but I do have a regular cull. I try to cull OH's stuff, he has double wardrobe with hanging on two levels and it's stuffed full. 10 years this year since he was medically retired - at least one suit from
those days remain and all his long sleeved shirts, don't know when they were last worn. Socks and pants I can deal with quietly but not anything on hangers. There is a leather coat that he has had for 15 years plus I don't think it's been worn more than
a dozen times. The really silly thing is he wears to death, I'm sick of seeing them, certain things and the rest just hang there.
Might have to try anything coming in with have to have something going out as he does buy things. I think something like Triny and Susannah lear out would be fantastic for him0 -
My OH moans about we wearing the "same old stuff". Mind you I don't throw things out, they just get demoted to 'slobwear', 'grimy jobwear' and finally car cleaning cloths.

Reminds me of the '50s when most clothing was 'Hand me downs.'

I thought everyone knew that single socks are actually metal coathangers in their larval state.

Started clearing out as well, the kitchen drawer was a must, and cupboard under the sink was scary

Last year our church had a "bags for church" appeal, when you filled the provided bag with unwanted clothes and they went to the company doing it, to raise money for the church.
I went through just one wardrobe and filled a large bin bag sized bag. But the best thing was, I found clothes I had forgotten about, or even had no recollection of buying! How could I forget buying a floor length black velvet jacket? And a matching skirt?
The only problem is I now have to resist buying any more clothes for a while.0 -
Our church has a charity shop called the villageXchange. I think the idea is to take something in you don't want for resale to raise funds for charity. Trouble is the shop lives up to its name. If you take something in you invariably bring something out
too! So much for de cluttering0 -
I had a complete and very therepuetic cull last summer. Things I had been hoarding for years and years. This prompted OH to do the same and we have not missed a bit of it: probably because it gave us room to go out clothes shopping. The only thing I just
can't get rid of is my long jacket I bought for my Dad's funeral. Oh, and my dad's hat. And his Jumper. And his binoculars. And his jacket. And his.................. Maybe I need to let go, I could fit so much more in my storage, limited as it is!0 -

Write your comments here...I'm gobsmacked, I didn't know this! It does make absolute sence now you mention it, everyday is
a school day. Funny though, I've never seen that single knicker, they always seem to keep their pairs firmly together!0 -
Had another go today , didn't realize my O H had as many paperbacks.

We are having a little re-organisation in the house, so OH sent me to clear out all the old paperbacks. Almost 2 cupboards full.
I did put a few interesting ones aside, but ended up with 2 big blue IKEA bags full, and today they have gone to the Cancer Research shop.
I think they were a bit overwhelmed by the number of books I unloaded!
A couple of shelves of old magazines have been recycled too, but there is still a lot of stuff to go through.
I'm not even thinking about the loft yet!!
