Well done Hull, it's already on my list of to visit, you're up there with some good cities, sadly I've not visited any of them. So it looks like I'll be adding to my travel list.
Anyone visited all of them?

I had the same ignorant misconception of Liverpool as some folk have of Hull, then I visited Liverpool & realised I had been stupid & based all my preconceived notions from ideas formed decades earlier. The Hull of 20-30yrs ago is not the same Kingston-upon-Hull
of today & it will be different again by 2017. I live 12miles from Hull & everytime I visit I see it has changed, changes for the better. The only way to have a true opinion of anywhere is to visit that place-then you will no longer be ignorant as
I was0 -
We caravan with friends, we tryto have a theme for our year. Two years ago we did"Places of our birth" . As I am born and bred Hull we spent a week there. It was great and they want to return despite Telford, Bournmouth, Weymouth and London all on the list
of birth places visited.as they say, "It's never dull in Ull."

It leaves me wondering what the criteria was in making this list. I have been lucky enough to have visited many of them and find myself wondering what I missed for them to have beaten Paris, London, Kyoto, Barcelona, Shanghai, St Petersburg and indeed many others.
As I said what on earth was the crieria for selecting those?

If anyone is thinking of a visit I would go to Hull next year for thr City ofCulture as at the moment the New Theatre and Ferens Art Gallery are closing for refurbishment and the streets are being upgraded. However if you can't wait it is still worth going
not just for the city but the surrounding area. The coastline from Spurn point to Scarborough is great and the countryside which includes the Yorkshire Wolds ( Hockney country (artist) ) is wonderful and of course the Yorkshire Moors. What more could anyone
want.0 -

We done the same we visited Liverpool many years ago and saw it in a bad light. We then avoided it at all cost for many years until last year when we thought we would try it again and we loved it. The Albert Dock area was brilliant with many trendy bars
and restaurants. We will definetly return to Liverpool sometime soon. We have only ever driven through Hull on our way to the ferry but will try and visit the city at some point.0 -
There are many cities through out Britain that are worth visiting however, you need to be careful where you go, I am very cautious when visiting certain parts of London. Again Liverpool, Manchester and I would presume Hull have places that need caution.

Here's the link for Hull next year.

For years Kingston upon Hull has only been known as a place to enter the country or a departure point, its the A63 as soon as possible when leaving the port to 'a' destination. Let's hope visitors will dally a while as it has many attractions on offer.

Ehm... I live in the Yorkshire Wolds.
The rolling green Wolds, the jewel sea on the horizon, beaches, culture, good food and quiet roads.
I can assure you it is truly awfull, please stay away.
Thank you.
Hull... My jury's still out.
It certainly isn't offensive, safe and pleasant enough when compared with other regional UK cities (I do get arround a bit)
Stay a day or so by all means.
But top 10 world destination?
Edinburgh, York, London, heck even Leeds may be.

We've been to Hull many times to get the ferry but never spent any real time there, its usually raining when we are coming and going We've
also been to Amsterdam, can't say I will rush back to there though, not on my list of must return.0 -
Mr Bollinger gets around the world a bit on business and often mentions Hull. There are typically two reactions: it's either great or crap. It turns out that most that think its crap haven't been. Those that have, or know people that have, and there are
plenty due to the city's excellent university, think its a great place. give it a try and be pleasantly surprised.0 -

Which if we're honest, doesn't really give the best impression of the City. I have lived in Hull for 40 years moving here from the West Riding when I was 7. Yes, it has it's faults some of them caused by themselves but the majority caused by lack of
investment by those in power who don't see it's potential. Not included in the Northern Powerhouse as that only includes west of Leeds!Hull has plenty to offer, including as already mentioned the excellent museums (all which are free except for The Deep), the top rated University, a Medical School, parks, gardens, culture, theatres and many other attractions too numerous to mention.
Give it a try - you might like it. I myself have never been impressed by Leeds - each to their own.

To those who say that Hull is great, I say that I am very pleased to hear that and one day I might well make a visit. But the OP was about it being, - not only the very top City in the UK, but also the 10th in the World???
To Quote a well knowm phrase or saying, - "You can not be Serious!"
Again I ask on what criteria was it judged?

It wasn't a competition TF it's the opinion of the author who wrote ,
"After being named the least romantic city in the UK in 2015, and once crowned one of the “crap towns” of the UK, things are finally looking
up for Hull. It’s the UK City of Culture in 2017, so this year is Hull‘s practice run. It’ll be brimming with new hotels and restaurants, and
even more of that distinctive home-grown creativity the city has always had. There are atmospheric old-timey pubs, eight excellent museums and a picturesque Old Town with cobbled streets. This year’s fun is set to culminate in the September Freedom Festival,
when the entire city is turned into a stage for performers and artists."as justification for his opinion.
Hope that helps and you can relax

Although just over the bridge, Hull is our nearest city! Only 15 mins away from Princes Key today and go regularly but prior to 1981 it was like going foreign on a ferry which got stuck on the sandbanks! Prior to retirement I was making the journey over
the bridge three or four times a week working in what was then the county of Humberside. It was and is a lovely, interesting city.0
