Winter solstice
I'm fed up with these short dull unseasonably warmish days and long, long dark nights. But good news It's arrived, it's all 'up hill' to the summer now! Out with the SAD syndrome I say and in with the new! I really miss the bird song and the smell of newly cut grass, what are you missing?

Some sunlight for my solar panels.

Wonderful that we are on the up as far as daylight is concerned . Sunlight is a big miss it's been warm and grey here with
only odd glimpses of the sun to prove it hasn't fallen out of the sky. Plenty of birdsong including a thrush again this morning. As we are off to warmer climes at the end of January I'd like some cold bright days. Each season in it's turn
Not to mention it might stop the grass growing it could do with another cut and it's too wet at the mo. Who'd have believed
making that sort of comment on 22 December?I feel for all those affected by the flooding and hope they get what they wish for including no more rain so they can dry out.

We are having mixed weather. Torrential rain, howling gales, the odd 5 minutes of sunshine. But its only winter weather and shouldnt impact in our enjoyment of life.
Wear the right clothes and get out and about. Its not the weather which is depressing, its the attitude of the "stay indoors" people who are bored.
Every day is important. Make the most of it.

I've been counting down for the last month. I "officially" now start planning for my planting of seeds (its a ritual that I plant my onion seeds on Boxing Day), on 1 January I get the new calendar and go through all my seed packets and note what dates to
do all my other seedings and also looking at where to visit in the caravan, especially now that it will be my first year of retirement, how often we can go.
By the way, the only sun I've seen so far are the Mr Smiley faces I place on this site0 -
Since the clocks have gone back you can count the number of sunny days on the fingers of your one hand! Just rain and more rain,

I miss the light evenings. Driving now after 4 p.m. means having to drive in very poor visibility due to the combination of darkness and wet weather.

I personally love the Autumn & Winter seasons, I get just as much done if not more, we just need to embrace it more as it won't be
changing anytime soon0 -
Global warming might change it. The south coast of England might one day become the new Costa del Sol!

Maybe we'll just have to stick with the telly for winter evenings then!

Write your comments here...Or if the poor misguided "Global Warming panic Merchants" are to be believed, The South of England could be mostly under water.
I much prefer Malcolm's idea.

As others think the same I like the seasons too, this start to winter has been a bit warmer butI can remember similar ones in the past. Nice to think we've turned towards the New Year now, another week or so and we'll be seeing a bit more daylight.

Normally I like the winter, especially if frosty with blue skies and sunshine which has been a bit lacking this winter so far. Hoping for
some brighter colder weather in January.0 -
This is my first time caravanning and we have only been out in cold/wet wintery days but thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I cant wait to experience the longer, warmer summer days. It will be interesting to compare.

The Sun! It's been very very wet up here in Yorkshire, and when it's not wet it's grey and very windy! Today looks more promising, so let's hope the start of longer days brings some sunshine and calm days!
You're right there Val, we've just spent 4 days there and only had one decent day when we got to Richmond. Now that summer is on the way we're heading south tomorrow chasing the sun....we're going to Lincolnshire.

It's a lovely sunrise here this morning on the club site at Littlehampton and an almost cloudless blue sky. We're just having our first cup of tea now.
We'll need to go shopping this morning. We're due into work at 6 p.m. this evening, so we have plenty of daytime to ourselves.

Now that the winter solstice is over, we should get three minutes more daylight today than we had yesterday, is that right?
