I've used diluted Milton in my motorhome water system without any ill effects for many years. I don't now, preferring Puriclean because I can get it quite easily.

With Milton, you have to ensure it is properly diluted, do not get neat Milton on any stainless steel, and check your handbook & water boiler instructions just in case there is a restriction. Make sure you flush the diluted Milton through. I found with Milton
there was still a taste after one flush through but it was not unpleasant and it disappeared after I'd used the system once.

Yacht chandlers also stock water purifying products. You can get it online as well.

Just done mine with a weak solution of sodium hypochlorite. The same as Milton, just cheaper.

The instructions for our Alde boiler say that under no circumstances should anything containing sodium hypochlorite be used to flush out the system because it can cause corrosion of the boiler. Must admit I wasn't aware of this and only came across it whilst
    looking for something else.

I tend not to put it through my water heater. But, its the same stuff that is used to chlorinate water, and it goes into swiming pools. At least one food retailer I know of, used it to treat fresh salads to increase the shelf life. Some branded bleaches
include Sodium Chloride aka common salt as a stabaliser.

What Alde say is a bit strange, because, in most cases, your water supply aleady has it. Its only a steralising function, so a weak solution into the plumbing. Left for thirty mins, then a good flush though afterwards. Its something I've alwas done with
just about everything, including the van.

All I can do is quote from p.63 of the current Bailey Owners's manual viz:

"Any steriliser products should be suitable for use with stainless steel.

Avoid steriliser products containing sodium hypochlorite, for example, as these will cause severe corrosion damage to the hot water cylinder, which is not covered under warranty.  Read the product label or contact the product manufacturer
    for details."

I have never used any sterilizer in any of our caravans in the last 30 odd years. I just run a full aquaroll of freash water through at the start of each trip. Never had any problems and I personally prefer that to introducing chemicals into my drinking
supply. I suppose living in the Lake District we get blas'e and trust our natural water and are not tempted either to buy bottled water. It probably has given us immunity!Smile

The RV manual said use household bleach.....took forever to flush it out of the system though - seemed to creep into the shower water for a very long time :-(

In Filey at start of season - forgot to sterilise the water system - ended up using Tesco own brand sterlising tablets found in Baby foods area - worked a treat but taste/smell did hang around after copious flushing of system - I probably put too much in!

Write your comments here...I agree with Tirril, To be honest we never use the tank water for drinking anyway, preferring to use bottled water to avoid any funny tastes/infections. We had our Coachman serviced by a mobile engineer last year and he recommended
throwing away the water filter and using bottled water "like 99% of all caravanners". I'd be interested to hear how many of you do the same - surely not 99%

When first pitched I tell my wife to drink some water out of the tap, while I have a beer. If after three days of me drinking beer and she is still OK then the waters safe to drink. Laughing

But seriously, the odd occasions such as any tablets or diluted squash comes straight out of the tap, just as and when. Once a year I send through from the aquaroll water with 'Puriclean' added, not certain its doing any good but never been ill either.

We've caravanned for over 40 yrs and rarely ever bothering to clean the system, & never bothered with anything other than the water from the tap. We're still here to tell the tale!Laughing
