Awning prices
we are looking for a 995 (size14) full awning. Have anyone bought an awning via the Internet and where is the best place to get a bargain. We have used most of our money buying the caravan so we need to economise with the awning. We need one that will
take an annexe later on. Any advice is very welcome.

There is a massive choice out there and it is a big investment. We recently bought a new Dorema Multi Nova because of the versatility and price.

You won't save much (if anything) buying a new awning on the internet. If you don't mind second-hand you may get a real bargain (perhaps even with an annexe thrown-in).
We have bought two awnings, both second-hand, using the internet, and both have been fabulous. Both have been in excellent condition, clean, and well cared for, and the latest purchase has lightweight poles, all labelled for ease of putting up. We didn't pay much for either of them!
I should read all the classifieds on here, and perhaps have a look at those which are the right size, in your area - and hopefully you'll find something to suit.
However, I've just looked at the link posted above, and there are some seriously good bargains on there for new awnings! Good luck!

Thank you. The problem with a full awning is the pole fixing, so it is difficult to know which one to get. We don't want one an awning that needs something fixing to the caravan. It's been years since we bought an awning and then it was a porch awning.

I don't know about other brands, but th eDorema one has Quick Lock pads for the poles so they don't actually attach to the caravan wall - no need to drill holes - they clamp on a special trim round the awning edge, the pole hooks on and the tension of the pole holds everything in place.
Think they are quite commonly found on new awnings

I wish you had put this post on 2 weeks ago,I would have saved money and bought a better product.The Dorema Sun Canopy is dearer and looks inferior.Dam .
I know - same thing with me - only found it after I had bought our new one - but I did save about £60 on a Reich Weight Control

Are the quick lock pads a new idea and do most awnings have them. I think it is a trip to a caravan accesserie shop to pick the brains of the staff, then onto the Internet. I just did not realise how expensive they are.
None of our awnings have required anything fixing to the caravan and we've bought several over the last twenty odd years. The pads on all have been attached to a second bead on the awning (the first slides into the awning rail) and then have a foam type pad which rests against the side of the caravan. You adjust the position of the pads along the rail, to suit the shape of your particular van, and then the hooked poles hook into them.
But before you buy, think how you'll use it. Will it be for very short breaks, where a smaller and lighter awning would be useful, or might you be staying four weeks on a site on top of a windy clifftop, where you need something more substantial or with a lot more room for a growing family.
It sounds as if it's the latter, if you're thinking about annexes, so if you can't afford the full price of a new one and you find the prices frightening, then I'd really advise looking at second hand rather than go for a cheaper and lightweight awning, which may not suit in the long term.
We bought our last awning from the Classified Adverts on this website (look under Shops and Offers, then Caravan Club Classifieds, and search to see if there is anything in the size you want. Recommendations of the various makes is difficult - most have something to recommend them. There are other caravanning forums with Classified sections, and also ebay, gumtree, and the like.
Another issue is sizing - some are sized in millimetres, others 'size 12, size 14' etc. Not all manufacturers have the same sizing, so a size 14 can be a variety of different sizes! Work out which size you need from the various manufacturers, so that you're always comparing awnings of the correct size.

We have just brought a new Dorema Daytona - everybody on the net and dealers were exactly the same price. Dorema does have a link on their main site to their bargins, same sort of awning but different side material was about £50 cheaper so may be worth
a look.Annex appears to be readily available also.
Fast delivery from the online dealer though talking to them, the awning is not stocked by them but comes directly from Dorema.

We got an extension piece for ours, for a pound or do, but it was steel, and more standard. Lightweight poles are more difficult to come by.
