Bespoke carpets for a song

We were using cheap runners and doormats for inside the caravan - having two water and mud loving spaniels it seemed for the best, but looked very untidy.

I thought of getting a carpet offfcut and some binding tape to make more fitted ones. I found a local carpet binding firm offering free carpet remnants if you pay for the binding.

Went in this morning, gave some measurements and chose a bit of durable carpet. Decided a template might help so came back and made a fully fitted paper template of the caravan floor.

Got a phone call at 5pm to say my two piece custom carpet with bound edges is ready for collection - total cost £59!!Happy

Well worth looking for a local carpet binder/whipper - seems a great deal to me.

Sounds a good deal to me. When we had our Sheppard it was a full time job cleaning(wish we still had him) and we are not house proud.  Sad

We have a local company that does carpet binding but I don't think its as good a value as the OP has achieved.

It gets better - went to collect them today and they only charged £50 - £9 less than original quote, as there was less binding required than they originally thought.

Put the in the caravan and they look great - the fit is perfect - they look like originals made for the caravan. Amazing how much better the inside looks now.

Oh, and Lidl have got a pet special today with damp proof car seat covers and reversible fleecy dog blankets for £6 each - perfect for the caravan bench seats. I gave up the battle of trying to keep the dogs on the floor....

We did the same, SV. A local carpet company supplied an offcut which they cut into three using the old carpets as templates and whipped the edges all for £50. What's more, it was the same brand of carpet as the original in our Elddis. There are bargains
    to be had out there!

Not a criticism but the dogs have to know you are the leader of the pack Silver. Make them obey you or they will just rule the roost (like they are doing) Well done on the carpet though!

Sounds like a very good idea. The dusty-pink carpets in our Ariva GT really need to go!

What a brilliant topic.  Want to replace carpets on mine so now won't be giving Mr Bailey £150.

Mine were mud brown to start with. Jet washing them and they were still mud brown.

Shaw Carpets of Darton near Barnsley did us a complete set of  carpets, including cab carpets, cut  to pattern from our original set in heavier duty carpet for Winter use.Price with binding was £70-we just had to put press studs in place to match the locators. We
swap back to the originals in Summer when we and the dog have finished tramping mud in the van.If you live in SY or WY  nip down the M1 to J38 and head for Barnsley;they are worth a trip out as they are very helpful and offer great VFM..

Looks like you all got bargins.

Just collected a set of 3, cut using the originals as templates, from the local 'cheap' carpet shop, cost me £100

Just Had my Twin Axle swift conqueror done in some amazing luxury carpet. The old swift ones were rubbish and never vacuumed up nicely

Used Pauls Carpet warehouse Off cut amazing £70 and the whipping £50 which looks 150% better than the original taping. 3 huge pieces, Perfectly cut and whipped - Thoroughly recommend. (Lots of cheaper pieces depending on budget and sizes required.)

On my recommendation a friend of my sister had carpets made from offcuts from the carpets she'd had fitted at home (which they had stored in their garage).  She had them whipped for £1 a metre, at a company we used, and they came in at less than £20 for the set including, velcro tabs in each corner.  In this area there are lots of places which whip the edges of carpets - we're frugal lot in Yorkshire!!

You may find a stall a market near you, which sells carpet offcuts bound as rugs, and they may also make you a very cheap set, made to measure.

No dogs but we did similar for under £30.  We put them on top of the van carpets in the winter, use original van carpets in spring and autumn and remove all carpets in the summer.

Don't let it be a battle, show them who's the leader, I say 'UP' and she jumps onto the seat laughing

Must be one of the most ridiculous replies I have ever seen on this site we take our dogs with us because we love them and would not entertain putting them in kennels to try and keep them of the bench seats is ridiculous our dogs know the pecking order . put throws on and chill. I watch with interest how many dog lovers agree with you.

Anyway, it's so much easier to move around a cvan/MH with the dogs tucked up out of the way.

This all seems very good value.  I think we will eventually need to get ours done.  I wouldn't mind betting that the new carpets you have made up are of a better quality than those that come with most caravans?

4 trips out and our dog has turned the carpet into a mess, so we are looking to get a spare so we can shampoo and alternate them.

Our dog knows it's place, never on the beds, on the couch when we can't see him etc etc. Problem is, in the caravan the couch turns into a bed, so in the middle of the night, he, as anyone else would do, is fed up with a hard floor, and want to have some of that nice cosy couch, that is now a bed.

Waking up with a dog who has pinched all the duvet is not fun, particularly as he is a Lab Retriever, and weighs 40kg.
