Insurance renewal advice please
Hi all , we have nearly completed our first year of caravanning and what a brilliant time we have had. 23 different trips so far this year, 3 miles away to 300 miles away, 1 nighters to 18.
Anyway, we have just had a CC insurance renewal notice of £145.45 .
A quick search came up with £77 from uk caravan sure without legal ,breakdown or europe cover,or £81 with europe cover.
lifesure freedom +caravaninsurance came in next at £101 including breakdown and euro cover.
I understand that I need to check like for like, I have also checked and my car cover covers breakdown while on the road.
just wondered from the more experienced out there, do you shop around, do the club price match, does anyone use these other companies etc.
I am sure this has been a well debated topic so if anyone can link me to it it would be apreciated. Regards
Dom

We are with the Club too, the service is very good, but the cost can be a bit more.
Is the cover with the other companies exactly the same? It can often be difficult to make an exact comparison.
Regarding breakdown cover, you need to check that your car cover would be suitable should it be the caravan that breaks down.

I went for the C&CC cover a few years back which is a bit cheaper and like for like with the CC but that won't help if you aren't a member of both clubs. They were very good when I had two claims.
If only one of you is a driver/tugger do check out what happens if the driver is incapacitated for any reason that could be important. They were ok with that for me last year thank goodness. You never know what large or small incident is just round the corner!

I'm with the club and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The price can be beaten but the service can't. I had a van stolen and the club was nothing short of brilliant. It's when things like that happen, when you really need help that the proof is in the pudding.
Club for me every time!!0 -
Have you looked at the 5 star DeFacto insurers? We use these to,provide quotes for our car insurance. We are insured with the club for our caravan as we find it difficult to find comparable quoted from the other DeFacto insurers due to,it being a Hobby.

Fair point but, would you not have got the same service from other insurance companies?
So I suppose my question should have been , has anyone had a bad experience with any insurance companies ?
No bad experience at all. Over my lifetime I have had to claim on car, caravan and house insurance - all with different companies - and all have been dealt with quickly and fairly by the assessor who came to sort out the problem. I'm afraid none of those insurances were via this Club, which simply acts as a broker, placing business with an actual insurer. Other brokers do that just as well and just as effectively.
When you come to claim you are dealing with an independent assessor - loyalty to the Caravan Club is no help in that situation.

1) Treat the renewal notice as the first offer by the renewal company2) Compare different companies either direct or via web sites3) check such things as excesses and what is or not included. 4) write it down and then compare. 4) If there is a better like
for like quote then speak to the existing insurers and see if they will match. Most case they will. Then consider tenewal.0 -

Write your comments here...This fact is no doubt is true but the point here is that with The Caravan Club being the size they now are means that the amount of clout they can wield means the insurance companies have to be "A1" in service or they are out
on their ear.0 -
We have used Saga and previously found them too expensive to bother with but not now, Also the fact that you dont have to press options 1-10 is great you just actually get to speak to a human straight away. Had a motorhome now switched to a caravan and got
a good refund from remaining policy too. Worth a try0 -

Not sure what happened there but if you went back on the internet the quote could be reinstated. I can only assume the Aviva quote was so much cheaper that the rep thought there was no point in taking it further but even so they should ask if you were still
interested. Frankly I think you got someone not fully into the work as it just does not make sense otherwise.0 -
I would also say check Devitt's fully before renewing.
We renewed our policy this year but later found the charge to our credit card was more than the total cost (shown on the renewal documents).
It appears there are hidden charges, in our case a £12.50 renewal fee and £29 for legal protection, even though we had protection last year and had (foolishly it seems) assumed it would have been automatically included in this year's total cost.
Very disappointed with the hidden renewal fee, so we will certainly be looking elsewhere next year.
