Paying for caravan insurance
Having received my caravan insurance renewal documents I rang the Club to pay for it over the phone as I always do. When it came to the payment bit from my Credit Card I was instructed to enter thr 'long number' using my phone key pad. I told the agent that I did not want to use the key pad but, as normal, give the number over the phone. I was told I could no longer do this but had to use the key pad. I told the agent that I did not want to use the pad as I always seem to have problems when I do. I was once again told I did not have any other option but key it in. I did this reluctantly and protested about it and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told that this new system was being introduced by some firms and the CC were in the leading 5%. When I told him I was not happy I was given the distinct impression that I was considered a 'Ludite' for objecting to 'progress. Not at all happy about this and will consider another Insurance in future. What happened to customer service?

I would image this is all to do with ensuring that your card details remain as secure as is possible for all telephone transactions with the club.
I personally do not like giving out my card details to a complete stranger on the other end of the phone, regardless of who they work for. If this method prevents the operator from seeing or recording the details then I'm all for this.

I would say that you inputting the card details keeps it secret from the operator on the phone, avoids it being overheard either end of the line and seems to be a lot safer and secure than reading it out. It always amazes me that people wil happily give
a credit card number and the cvc code to any tom dick or harry over the phone where they are likely to write it down and take the cvc code, for a delivery they also give a delivery address so anyone selling on thes data has everything but by doing this you
eliminate the majority of the risk so long as you are sure its the CC you are calling..0 -
Some people do still have rotary-dial phones!, or even early push button phones still set to 'impulse' rather than 'tone' (yes, they will still work on BT connections). Presumably CC turn away the business?

But if you can't use ther key pad easily or don't want to then you should still have the option to do it the 'old' way
You can send a cheque if you prefer. That's the old way.

The system should be more secure as there have been cases where operators have passed on details to criminals and this should avoid that. The club and other operators need to realise that it will not work for some and provide the previous method as an alteternative
for those who cannot or will not use the new system. It is just a question of common sense and the club seem to have forgotten about that.0 -
Sorry whats the problem again?
Automated systems play more of a role in daily life it isnt that unusual, I would be more upset if there wasn't an option to speak to a human being, those systems that are circular drive me mad.
