CC insurance
We have been faithful customers buying CC caravan insurance for the last 8 years. We are now told, that because we have a 'foreign' but recognised (Adria) over 7 mtrs we cannot insure our caravan any more. Why? Anyone else had this problem with a caravan
that meets every criteria for insuarence , as long as it it not 'Foriegn' ? The stress levels this has caused is exceptional. Seems to be a complete nonsense

Whilst understanding the benefits of insurance is it not time, at 8 years old, that the value of the caravan has dropped to the extent that it is no longer worthwhile insuring it?
Just check that your car insurance covers any 'trailer' which , of course, would include a caravan.
Just a thought - one that I have practised.

Your car insurance covers the caravan for third party risks only when towing. On site or in store if you have no caravan policy you have no cover.
Without a caravan policy you have no cover for third party claims when unhitched although the risk is small claims can be huge.
Given premiums are based on the caravan value I would have thought that even at eight years policies are worthwhile but it is a matter of personal opinion. The club will however give you replacement as new at that age so might be worth considering although
premiums are based on replacement cost.0 -
The caravan is ONE YEAR old, meets all the requisites of the British Caravanning codes, yet, is not classed as insurable through the caravan club. If we were not so penalised for having a twin axle caravan, both here and abroad (could be travelers!) we probably
would not have changed.to answer comments so far, I would not dream of risking my investment in a caravan either by not insuring or annual servicing both of which I think should be mandatory!

Did you ring them to discuss? Is it a lack of security on the van?
I just tried a quote for an Adria with a new price of £24000, having no idea of the value, ticking all the security devices like we have on our twin axle (Sterling Searcher), but not Gold Storage, and it gave me a quote. (around £380)
Did not even ask the model, which I thought strange, just the make.

That would very much depend on the van!
Ours is 8 years old, but still worth £10k+ , no way would I risk losing that.

Artyboo.....what has 7m got to do with things?
No van over 7m BODY LENGTH can be towed with a regular car/4x4 in UK, so it cannot be over 7m if it complies with UK rules.
The shipping length is 8.02, not a problem, ours is 7.95. You just have a slightly longer drawbar.

Oops , typo. We were assured it was body length and not shipping length therefore we can be insured. Regrettable, having e mailed the OH, he says we now have purchased other insurance so this phone call, although very helpful, is not so helpful. Just before
anyone comments, OH did argue this fact when trying to renew. The lady on the other end even spoke to her supervisor but the answer was still a negative.0
