Who's away for Christmas or New Year ?
We've put our caravan away for the winter now but we're really missing it. Just wondered if anyone is touring over the Christmas & New Year period and if so where are you off to and how will you celebrate ? How do you cope with the cold weather ?

Hi starbys,
Go on get it out again, you know you want to. Get the heating on, bring the aquarolls and pump in overnight if you don't have a cover.
We are waiting on a cancellation for Grantown on Spey for Hogmanay. Went there a couple of years back, great wee street party.
If we don't get a cancellation, we'll head over to Oban, North Ledaig instead. Hopefully be a few fireworks or something on.
Hope you manage to get away.
Cheers, Alex.

Have just set off on out X-Mas/New Year trip, using mainly CLs but also the odd CC site. Most modern vans have good enough insulation to be used all year round.
Our trip wil take us down the West side of England as far south as Hereford for X-Mas and then back via Worcestershire and the Cotswolds. We carry insulation jackets fo rour water barrels and if really cold take the pump in each night as well as a small water container.

Booked in at Chapel Lane - Wythall for 4 nights over the New Year. Only one thing will stop us is about 4 foot of snow !
Winter precautions already mentioned - no great mystery.
Go out and enjoy it- saves rotating tyres when in storage !!

We are away for Christmas but not in the van as its at the dealers get a few jobs done can't go away for New Year either as we don't get
it back until after the 5th of Jan when they re-open. We have done New Year away in the past and really enjoyed it, just be prepaired and everything will be ok.0 -
Away last week (5days) at Bath for the Christmas Market, 15th December off to Longleat CC site for the lights (5 days). And then away on a rally over New Year again 5 nights. Not been home for a New Year for the past 20 odd years.

The light festival has different 'characters' this year apparently. The Chinese dragons etc are currently in Leeds. Use the discounted tickets via the site page and take advantage of multiple days as it works out cheaper. We did a rally, our first, last
December. The bus tour check in is near the club entrance, worth getting there at opening time if a weekend day to get a seat on the bus. Enjoy.0 -
Will be at home over Christmas so meeting up with youngest son and his girlfriend for an early Christmas next week in the caravan.Lights at the ready!

Our c/van is used most monrhs, We are off to Norfolk for Xmas, and its great to be out in winter with the c/van ,its warmer than at home and as long as you take warm clothes it does not stop us being out and about,
If it gets really cold bring pump inside ,and we have a 5ltr water container in the van for drinking water all the time, the only problem we have had is the, site taps that may freeze, also you will need Propane (red) cylinders as butane (blue)cylinders will
not "work"0 -
We have done Christmas in the van some years ago but have tended to be at home over recent years then gone away usually to Edinburgh area for New Year. This year though, we're away in Fuerteventura for Christmas and at home for New Year (just for a change).

Reading comments from you intrepid travellers, I'm (almost) embarrassed to say we're off to Barbados. Not in the caravan of course. Been caravaning only about 5 years, and our first short distance 'try out' trip in March that year saw our first ever caravan
night get a blanket of snow. So we have tried winter caravanning. But we like a mix of the two types of holidays.1 -

Meeting out cruise ship there and then 14 days cruising the southern carribbean, van's in doc until after the New Year, getting jobs done so why not. Kids live away from home, would just be the
2 of us so why not have a bit of pampering, we don't do presents even when at home.0
