i hear that the Bar  and Bistro at Knaresborough cc site is to close next year, if this is true it is such a shame. I was in there last night and it was very busy, a great place to meet and socialise, I hope this is not the case, maybe if members show support
for it on this forum it may help its cause

No idea how popular it is. I have been to knaresborough site but I have never been interested in such a facility directly on site

its all down to choice of course, but I've never been a fan of bars and such things on sites anyway. If I want that sort of thing I'll go off site.

However is this information real David? where did you get it from? On the club website or magazine? You could always contact the club direct? If it is clsoing it would be interesting to know why?

The site isn't opening until August next year so assume it's having a re vamp. Don't know if they intend not reopening the bistro?

Doesn't the club list details of refurbishments and site changes somewhere?

It does, but currently there is only 2016 changes for this site showing.

Thought I'd seen something in the CC Magazine before it went in the bin Tongue Out

As an interested party in the availability of this site as daughter lives in Harrogate, been keeping an eye on these proposals. Details of which are to be found under Harrogate Planning Applications; put in Scotton and search down to the "installation of
19 all-weather pitches etc. See the following:-

Installation of 19 all-weather touring caravan pitches, 12 to be fully serviced, and construction of tarmac site roads.
Demolition and erection of replacement reception/bistro building. Construction of new vehicular access to the highway.

Knaresborough Caravan Club Site New Road Scotton North Yorkshire HG5 9HH

    Ref. No: 16/03348/FULMAJ | Received: Mon 08 Aug 2016 | Validated: Wed 31 Aug 2016 | Status: Registered"

At the present time this is shown as 'Pending consideration'. Based on the rejection by the council of the later application for twelve month opening of the site, subject of an earlier posting on this forum under Knaresborough CC site, I'm not too optomistic
this development will take place in the form detailed on the plans, new, access road, re-positioned and rebuilt Reception and Bistro plus the development of the top field, etc.

Unless East Grinstead has a contractor on stand-by, would think it highly improbable development will take place from January 2017 as seems to be the original intention. Some of the documentation relating to objections makes interesing reading on perceptions
of caravanners in both application as does the justification for the development of the nineteen pitches in the Caravan Clubs submissions!

Looking at the local comments it appears that caravans queuing on the road are a concern. We've used the site and the bistro bar, hope it can be rebulit. Is the local pub still open as an alternative?

Yes, it is still open; The Guy Fawkes. Its fortunes of recent times have changed considerable from the time it was up for sale and looked very delapidated. New owners and you now have to book as food is very good. Bit more expernsive though than the Bistro!

The queuing in the road in my opinion stems from the very, very strict application of the 1 o'clock access time. Arrive before time and no hesitation send round the site, out and back up the road. Hence the road queing.

So really the fault of selfish members who ignore the 1pm arrival?

Time these members understood that their actions impinge on local residents and  give all site users a bad name.

If people are queuing in the road before 1pm then they should be told to move. If there is a problem thev club should make it clear when booming that you will not be allowed in before then and will not be allowed to queue and action will be taken against
those who ignore this. The club has problems wit arrival times at a few sites and needs to make he instructions far stronger.

It would probably be more sensible to be flexible with arrival times since this is a busy road and there is very little room to queue even at the correct times. People probably tend to arrive together for 1pm and this causes an obstruction.

We stayed at the Knaresborough site a couple of years ago.  Its an ideal location for touring the area.

We were never tempted to visit the on-site. Bistro, The site is but a few minutes drive to many good eateries. It even has a bus stop just outside the site with a good service into the nearby town.

    Cheers ......K

If they have problems with queueing outside the site, then it must be down to the management of tbe site.

York Rowntree has a narrow access road and is also extremely popular - maybe more so than Knaresborough. But has no problems with queues or roads being blocked.

York has also maintained the 12noon arrival time, by the simple and eminently sensible action of insisting on 11:15am departures......and they enforce it!

Though they may like to think otherwise, The Caravan Club Ltd have no jurisdiction over what happens on the public highway. The police might be interested if an obstruction were to be caused. However, NIMBY locals uspet by having to see a caravan can complain
and object to planning decisions on grounds of amenity (theirs, and not the caravaners).

Just a quick up date. Harrogate Council yesterday 30th November, under reference 16/03348/FULMAJ confirmed and gave permission to the planning application of the Club for the redevelopment of this site. Confirms the Clubs date given on page 26 Decemember
Magazine site will close from January to August 2017.

Another Yorkshire site out of commission for the major part of next year. Where will all the Knaresborough week-enders go now I wonder!

Especially as they were originally taking Hawes out as well. What has Yorkshire done to upset CC
