Anyone any update on Castleton? I have tried to book for Feb 2017 and cannot. I have contacted the club online Web chat and was told that they would book for me. Then the adviser came back and said the site will be closed until Aug 2017. I was a little surprised
as I have seen nothing in the monthly magazine.

Hope this is not another site that is coming to the End?

According to the site details page on this website under Important Information it says "Pending committee approval, the Castleton site will be closed in January 2017 through to mid August 2017 for proposed refurbishment." As Mark has said above.

Looks as if it's going to be a major job then. Such a pity that it's taking so much time and that it's happening at a time when both the Hawes & Grassington (Wharfedale) site are also closed.

Just had a look at the info and also Severn Water is replacing pipes in the area (Castleton and Hope), work expected to take 12 months from 26 September with traffic management; so while site is still open there could be delays on approach roads.

Laneside Caravan park in Hope is a commecial alternative. Quite reasonable.

I like the Castleton site. There is nothing wrong with it. .  Great walking area, lots do do and see.  Why shut it for so long ???

Would tend to agree K. Whilst it is nice to have sites refurbished. I can think of others that I would put before Castleton.

An 8 month closure is a long time for a refurb! And through the summer?  Surely to close at the end of September or October and reopen April or May would be preferebale and ensure less "lost" nights on a site open all year.

There's a fair chance Castleton will be under snow for a good few weeks through Winter months, not the best time to be out doing refurbishments, let alone trying to get building supplies into village. It is also very busy site in run up to Christmas and
New Year, with bookings very busy. Club will have done their homework no doubt regarding best time to close.
