Much Wenlock ending as a club site
Sorry to read the "goodbye to Much Wenlock" article in the October issue of Caravan Club magazine. Nice site, nice wardens, nice area, loads of things to do locally. The town of Much Wenlock,Iron Bridge,The Long Mynd,Leominster, Ludlow,Bridgenorth, Shrewsbury etc.etc. How on earth can the club suggest that High Onn CC site is remotely close to Much Wenlock is a mystry. If the Caravan Club was a "propper club" they would never allow sites like this to be closed. Instead of banging on about travel to the continent, perhaps they would be better engaged putting more energy into keeping what we have. Its better in the long run, to keep the crown jewel's.When they are gone, we will all be the poorer. Kind regards, David E. Member for many years

If the owner won't renew the lease I fear there's little can be done about it.

I wonder what the owners will do with the site now - I have fond memories of Much Wenlock - my first sortie with the Solo group
The owners are going to open it as a commercial site, presumably after they've done some work on it, like fitting a toilet block.
Will miss the old site, one of our favourites.

Excellent - if they put in toilet block we can finally use it.

But if the article also states that the owners are about to upgrade the site, does that mean the current landlord or new owners? If it stays as a site, does it actually matter who owns it? It wouldn't to me - in fact it would be better for someone who
is no longer a member of the Caravan Club.0 -
I wonder if some of the owners of these leased sites have half an eye on the land value should it be able, at some stage in the future, to be used as building land. If the lease it to the Club for a long period it wouldn't be as easy to realise the value?

I am glad they are not leaving it with the club - much better to have a non-club site useable by more people than a club site only useable by the minority who are happy without facilities.
If they had an eye on it as saleable building land in the near future I wouldnt think they would go to the expense of building a facilities block.

I think that the minority who happily use none facility sites is a sizeable minority. When I have been on this site it has been more or less full by summer weekend out of main season. Those tha twon't rely on their own facilities would not reaslise this.
The non facility site on Anglesey is also very popular,0 -
The site has 67 pitches (5 economy with no EHU). 4 of the economy pitches are on a higher level on the site and were out of use due to recent weather when we were there in September 2014. The remaining site was full at the weekend! Hardly a white elephant
then.Similarly the CC none facility site at Bourton-on-the-Water was full when we visited a few years ago come the weekend.

its nice to have a bit of variation in the Clubs portfolio, we dont want all the sites exactly the same do we, otherwise it would be pretty boring...
as it is, there arent that many non-fac sites in the club, the ones that are (as Alan says above) are pretty busy, certainly in the summer months....due to location, perhaps...
CCC also have one one in the New Forest (Slinfold?) and thats really nice too....
a shame to lose sites in this way but thats life.

It probably is due to location - if they had facilities they would be in the same location and available to more members so even better. Having facilities wouldnt change the site/location or detract from them, it would just allow all members to use
them.0 -
It's a real shame the club are losing Much Wenlock, we really like the non facility sites, it's great to have the choice.

All members are allowed to use them bmbonanza. Some choose not to.

Yes, totally agree, non facilities sites are great and excellent value for money, most cost little more than a CL. Whenever we have used a non facilities site it has been very busy which shows their popularity. OK some like posh toilet blocks but with modern
caravan facilities a basic site is fine for so many of us.0
