Sites Near Bath

I am looking for a Site near bath for my Husbands 50th Birthday and our 20th Anniversary as this happens to fall over Easter next year preferably adults only.  I have found Plough Lane Caravan Site and Marsh Farm (not the CL there but the normal site.)  Has
anyone stayed at either of these and what do they think of them?  Or do you have any other suggestions.  My husband will not go to Bath Chew Valley after reading your car stays in the carpark as he like the car by the van as we always have stuff in it?  I
look forward to hearing your suggestions.

    I would have a look on UKcampsites website. Easy to use, most listed sites have photos, websites and reviews, and you can decide if the facilities offered suit your needs. Easter will be fairly busy, so nowhere is likely to be quiet, or cheap for that matter,
    but I had a quick look and found what looks like a very nice 10 pitch site called Blackberries Campsite. Nothing like a Club Site, but looks, and sounds very nice from photos and reviews. Plenty more listed as well. Hope this helps.Happy

    We stayed at Plough Lane a few years ago, Tomorrow. It was absolutely as described on their website. It was first class and at least as good as a CC site - possibly better. The facility block was spotless and the grounds pristine. You can hear some traffic
    noise from the site but it wasn't very much and not intrusive. 

    We keep meaning to go back but haven't managed it yet.

    If I was you, I'd try and get him to reconsider Bath Chew Valley.  I was apprehensive about staying due to the separate car park and also my wife has mobility issues, but we stayed there for 10 days in June, and are so glad we did.  The site is only small, and if you phone before hand you can ask to be on a pitch close to the car park. You can park next to your van for loading/unloading and they pitch your van for you on arrival & take it off the pitch for you at the end of your stay, so it's one of the most stress free arrivals we've ever experienced! The site is immaculate, the staff very friendy & helpful and the toilets are all individual rooms containing shower, toilet & wash basin, and are cleaned 2-3 times a day.  (One at a time, so there's no cleaning schedules to remember!) It is within easy walking distance of the village with a post office, pub & curry house.  All in all I'm really glad we stayed.

    Unfortunately my husband would find someone else pitching his van very stressful

    Marsh farm is wonderful,stayed their a couple of times,good walks on the canal.very good and friendly owners.

    There is a site on the edge of Bath called Bath Marina and Caravan Park, my review and pictures here  Its fine as a place to stay if you want to be near Bath but it wouldn't win the prize  as the best campsite! If the Plough Lane is the one at Chippenham we left there a couple of days ago. I don't think you would be disappointed its a very well looked after site. Quite a lot of rules and regs although nothig to be concerned about but typical of adult only sites in my experience!!! Not done the site report yet.

    13 miles and nearly half an hours drive.....according to googlemapsUndecided

    rather a lot of 'license' in the name, methinks....

    ...and Plough Lane is on the far side of Chippenham, 16 miles away.....

    perhaps the expression 'near' means something completely different to me....Sad

    If you are prepared to travel to Bath then have a look at Old Oaks near Glastonbury and Wells Holiday Park.

    Well I did ask if you had any better sites to offer?  

    David already gave you the answer i would have given, Bath Marina.....in BathUndecided 

    you can walk/cycle into town (or even to Bristol) along the tow path/cycle route, its on a bus route, and P&R opposite, as is the Boathouse pub.

    I always find this a difficult question to answer as people's expectations differ so much and noise, of any sort, has a different affect on different people. Personally we were not bothered in the least by any noise from our pitch. Plough Lane is divided
    into two parts. Those pitches in front of reception are further away from the main road and I am sure the site would do their best to accommodate a request to be in that part of the site. You might have to be prepared for the odd moo from the cows in the field
    next door!!! BTW the site is not adjacent to the main road,  there is more land inbetween.

    Tomorrow - depends if you want "luxury" or "basic" for your site. A few years back we stayed at a site called Bury View, just outside Bath, on the road to Chew Valley just a short drive to the park and ride at New bridge which is much the easiest way to
    get into Bath ( unless you walk or cycle, in which case the Marina site would be ideal). Nowhere near the standard of Chew Valley or Plough Lane, but it has toilets/showers, a country pub within walking distance and is on the right side of the city for Chew
    Valley lakes, Glastonbury, Cheddar etc if you want to head out in that direction.

    A perfectly adequate site, worth thinking about, but maybe not just right for a special occasion. Just another possible.

    At Old oaks do you have to park your car in front of your caravan. As pictures I have seen seem to indicate this?

    We do not have an awning so we did not.  From memory some of the pitches maybe but the space between pitches is massive.  The site is split into different areas and some pitches are bigger than others.  My favourite area is the walnut circle .

    We decided to stay outside of bath and train in and have booked Plough Lane.  Thanks for all the suggestions have more to try at another date now.  Laughing

    Unless you are staying in Bath and can use public transport its probably a good idea to use the train as traffic in the centre of Bath can be busy and I expect parking more so. Don't think you will be disappointed with Plough Lane, I now have some pictures
