Speed on sites AGAIN

Yes we have all witnessed people who don't adhere to the limit but is there really that many mindless members that requires us to have arguments over chicanes! On the matter of chicanes don't see how they would be better than speed humps, to make them big
enough for the larger units to go through would enable smaller units or cars without caravans to go through as quick as they liked. Also in my experience I and others can take a typical chicane in an artic at a speed faster than the club sites limit.0 -
I simply wasn't prepared to argue with my earlier friend because it was patently obvious how it was all going to end so I withdrew totally before it got nasty.
Perfectly happy to debate most things but I will not have anyone demand answers from me in an aggressive manner.
Just turns me right off the forum.
I agree a chicane would not be effective because in order to allow someone perhaps with their first caravan to safely negotiate it they would need to be so large to be ineffective for a seasoned tower and as you say for a solo car it would be no impediment whatsoever. Probably more of a challenge to see how fast you can do it.

Local to me some chicanes were installed as traffic calming measures. Whether due to darkness, alcohol, or drivers being anything but calmed by them they kept getting demolished. Pleased to say one at least is now not being replaced.

Some folk will always speed, because they think they know better, and can drive better, than everybody else. I tend to wander in front of them pulling my wastemaster, it usually slows them down, far better a flattened wastemaster than a flattened child. At 5 mph even an outfit can stop quickly, at faster than that, they cannot. It should be made clear on CC sites that pedestrians and cyclists have priority especially between 12.00 and 14.00 !!

Yep, the kids are in the wrong but you're not going to run them down so they already have priority - official, or otherwise.

Thats about the size of it.
Kids are kids and you have to look after them no matter who is at fault.
I am a bit biased because I used to be one.

Perhaps narrow pinch points are the solution. Just wide enough to get a rig through. Less damaging than speed humps.

There are two troubles with that. The pinch points have to admit larger vehicles safely - recovery vehicles, fire engines etc.
Also I drive on/off a site with a caravan once each way when I use a site. More frequently solo and therefore a narrower outfit

What about road humps that don't fill the whole road and are narrow enough to allow the passage of a carefully driven van or MH. They would of course affect the narrower track of the car and thus still work on folk driving round the site solo. Certainly
the case in our high street, unfortunately there it also means buses and vans don't slow down as much as they should.0 -

A nice sentiment that might work when there is but one of them. When there are more and they are moving from different directions then a driver carefully watching one or a group may well just not see the approach of another. They can also come out at high
speed from behind hedges and suchlike, and even when the driver has passed, but not the rest of the outfit.I think it would be safer for all involved if the opportunity was taken to use the slightly safer than public highway environment of Club sites to educate and train young cyclists how to use a machine correctly.

There are no need for and humps or chicane's ,just observe the speed you are requested to follow ......
The point is some don't adhere to the 5mph limit. A while ago a child was killed on a club site, health and safety including speeding was top of the agenda but as life goes on we put these things to the back if our minds and think these things don't or can't
happen. The rules are there for a very good reason and if people don't adhere to them they should be challenged by the wardens if seen.

As far as I am aware two children have been killed on CC sites. On both occasions the driver was found to be not at fault and driving sedately. On one occasion the kiddie emerged from a toilet block area between car and van. On the ihe other occasion the kiddie rode into the side of the outfit. Very sad. Both children were around 5 from memory

I wasnt suggesting anyone was at fault, just when something awlfull happens rules are hightened, as time goes by the memories fade and people get back to doing things perhaps they shouldnt, As I said these rules are there for everyones safety and should
be policed by the wardens0 -
I'm an organiser of our local community road safety team and as such in my possession I have a speed gun that we use. If the club so wishes I would be willing to monitor sites near me to try and prove a point. It won't work lower than 10mph so would be ok
for club sites. It's an offer I don't expect will be taken up but it might just give them a useful idea to get to grips with the problem.I am also sure your offer will not be taken up. If the club wished they could quite easily furnish sites with mobile cameras or speed guns but their priority seems to be collecting fees no matter how fast the people throwing money at them are travelling.
A co-ordinated and sustained anti-speeding campaign with membership suspensions for worst offenders would I am sure soon improve matters.

It would be interesting to hear from the OP.
