Cancelling and Booking
There has been a lot of complaints about this website in it's structure in the past, from me included.
However I have just had the experience of cancelling one site and rebooking another on line. It was so quick and easy with confirmation emails coming immediately. It must have taken all of 3 or 4 minutes.
So credit where credit is due. Well done to the IT dept for this one.

I agree that the booking/amending/cancelling system is good. It's a major factor for me in choosing CC and is far superior to C&CC's system and no deposits to faff with either.

The online system is great if you want to amend holiday plans, no fuss , or deposits to worry about, really easy to use.

Worked well for us too when we had to head home earlier than expected. But we did cancel before the 72hr deadline, of course.

Write your comments here...even if you cancel within 72 hours there is no penalty so long as you book another CC site. One of the reasons we cancelled C&CC membership is the inefficiencies and stupidity of their booking system. If you want to change it
can't be done online you have to call. Their staff are rude and they are unable to transfer your deposit they have to refund and take a new one, so if you have a trip booked with several sites imagine the time and chaos that would be. Oh and if you need to
change within 30 days you can't!0 -
There was a thread on the C&CC site where late in the day they had to change from the Cambridge site to Oxford. The rules do not allow the transfer and they lost their deposit. Not so happy member, probably now an ex member given with CC he would have lost
nothing assuming he could get in at Oxford but that might be difficult so the C&CC might still win.0 -
It's the beauty of it being a club. When we book we book a pitch with the club, if we need to 'change' that booking, for whatever reason, to a different site, I look at this way, we 'amend' our booking. Only needed to do it twice in all the years but that ability to amend a booking is a big plus for me.

It's not a case of "winners", and thus, by implication "losers" is it?
We book 'hard standing with EHU' pitches on C&CC sites, because we can. So we tour as we please during the day, en route, in our motorhome, and arrive at a site late afternoon in the certain knowledge that a hard standing pitch is available to us.
We book as near to departure from home as we wish because, I think, the booking conditions (restraints?) of the C&CC deter many forward bookings. And, I hazard, tent campers will not commit too far ahead. So there is often no problem booking a pitch we
want at short notice. If we have only but a vague notion of an itinerary, we book CC sites, knowing that we can amend and adjust without fuss.
Both systems are very much appreciated - when we are UK based and are not "elsewhere".
...thanks for your post it's helped me decide about joining the C&CC. There has been many negative posts about the other clubs booking system that I have been undecided. However your post has been positive, the way you tour in the UK is very similar to ourselves
so I think we will give it a try for a year or so to see how we get on.0 -
There are pros and cons to both system but as Way to Go suggests they can be used to your advantage. If we book a C&CC site we usually leave to as near to the point of leaving home as we pretty confident that we will find space. CC sites are usually booked
further ahead and they generally have to be. BTW further ahead might be a month rather than days in the case of the C&CC. The CC system is far better in the way that it works system wise.David

We have no trouble booking C&CC sites by phoning ahead. The online system only allows a 2 night stay booking to be made, but by phone you can book 1 night, except for weekends of course. This has worked well for us for a long time now. We toured Scotland
in 2014. The only site we made an advance booking for was Moffat, all the other sites we stayed at, both commerical and C&CC sites, we booked by phoning ahead. I don't find paying the deposit onerous, although extending the cancellation period to 30 days
is OTT. Both clubs have their pros and cons. If you want to book in advance for a one night stopover, then CC is your better option. We don't use many CC sites, but we belong to the CC because of the CL network, which imo is better than the C&CC CS's.0 -
I fail to understand why anyone wants to change sites. Having made up your mind where you want to go and booked it, what is the driving force to change it?

The birth of our grandson! We changed so we could go see him! He came later than expected but much appreciated the ability to change which meant we saw him on his birthday!.

We have only changed a booking once, within the required period, when we had a caravan. We cancelled a site in Wales following forecasts of very high winds and stormy weather in the west. We went to a much calmer CC site in Norfolk instead.

Various reasons.
Made changes when car needed a new part as it meant staying at a site for 2 night longer. We did not wish to reduce stay on next site so ammended arrival and departure and reduced the time on the folowing site.
Warden advised us that he was unable to keep the ramp up to the site in Bury clear of ice, same story next morning and so we cancelled and rebooked at Southport
On a few occasions when booked on site for our last location we have decided to stay a night less there and book another site for 5 nights rather than return home.
Left the site outside York early rather than spend our last day on holiday atuck in the caravan with gale force winds and probably rain being rocked around.
Family illness on another occasion.
Most common ammendment is to decide a few days before to start the holiday a couple of days early
We would not cancel for bad wearther unless exceptional winds or snowed in.

Mother taken into hospital a week before our planned tour. So three sites canceled and Cirencester booked for 3 weeks.

When my mother was taken into hospital we changed from a CCC site in mid Wales to one 6 miles from home. We knew it would be our only chance to getaway and we could still go to the hospotal every day. That was in 2004 and the CCC sorted it for us and swapped
our deposit.0 -

..weather, why sit out bad weather when its nice a couple of hours away. If it changes later on you can always amend booking again.

We have been away almost 110 nights this year. Rain has stopped play on no more than 8 days.
Has it been a good year or have we been lucky? When in the Highlands for 5 weeks of a 10 week break starting 7th April we did travel out 20 miles on a few occasions to find better weather on days out.

There seem to be some very genuine reasons why people might want to change sites. I don't think people are as fickle as some think. One major advantage of the CC system is tht it allows you that freedom within reason.Surely the whole point of owning our own means of getting away is the flexibility it offers?

Thanks for the responses. I have little sympathy with those who make changes because of weather, the club must be the only organisation that allows this but other response sound reasonable. However I might have cancelled rather
than go away.Peedee

No longer weekend. I have not done so regularly for 20 years on CC sites. We did not normally book until probably the day before. It was quite common to travel 65 miles each way for a weekend break. Arrive late Friday, Stay Saturday and if weather was decent book the Sunday night whilst on site and leave late or even early Monday. If weather looked rubbish we may well not book with kiddies.
Nowadays some sites might need to be booked earlier. If I was booking ahead these days and the weather forecast was rubbish I might well cancel rather than spend £30 on fuel and £50+ on site fees (total of over £80) to stay in the caravan watching the rain.
When we go away now it is part of a longer tour of 4.5 to 7.5 weeks or a two week stay over Christmas and so we would not cancel.

I would not cancel for rain no matter how heavy but if unexpected very high winds or heavy snow were forecast on travel day I would have no hesitation in cancelling on the grounds of safety.
Wardens have been very accommodating in such circumstances in the past.

When we tour in the UK its usually in the winter months so sites are not usually busy. We tend to book no more than the next site ahead, as I said if the weather looks better somewhere else (within striking distance) then I will change my booking, as the
sites are not busy it doesn't inconvenience anyone, the club still gets my business and we enjoy our time away. We don't take part in this hobby to sit around sites waiting for a nice day, we like to get out and about, I dont mind any amount of cold, snow
or ice but I hate walking around in the rain, it might suit some but not me, I get enough of it at home I don't need it when I'm away. I've never cancelled a booking but I have amended a few because of weather.0
