, anyway the season still goes for me with a site booked middle
of October and looking at Xmas also. Weather on road won't bother me and I can tread where M/H fear to go, on grass also.

My caravan is empty going in for its pre winter season service on monday and will then be re packed with my winter caravanning gear and clothing. xmas and new year booked. And will no doubt have at least another two weeks away before then.
Just like DaveFL2 winter vanning no problem with a 4x4

Have a trip to Cornwall planned for the end of October, then up to the Peak District in December, so no plans to pack the van away just yet.

Hopefully off to the Lakes tomorrow - if that storm has blown itself out. Going to give http://castleriggfarm.com/ a go for the first time. Looks a decent site with reduced fees and close proximity to Keswick - take

This is the time of the year when we see less and less caravans on the road and a huge presence of Motorhomes.
This is due to the fact that motorhomes lend themselves easily to holidaying in less than summer weather.
Coupled with the fact that caravans are losing some of their popularity with those who like to extend their holidaying months so they change their allegience to motorhomes. There will soon be a 50/50 split in ownership of the two.

Write your comments here...you are,of course,having a laugh!!!!!!Propper caravanners who tow all year round with suitable vehicles are often seen towing vans with windows (usually front wheel drive with all of the weight at the rear,out of sticky patches

October and November used to be one of our favourite times for getting away in the caravan. Now we make more use of our static so won't tour so much, but still hoping for the odd couple of days away now and again. Usually opt for a cottage in January then
back to the van in February.0 -

The length of my trousers is governed more by latitude than the calendar. Seldom wear shorts until at least further down than 40 degrees North. I'd never make a postie.

Just noticed how the leaves are starting to fall here in Yorkshire now, so hoping for some good Autumn colours when we are away in October. Should be nice, still warm in the day, but a tad cooler in evenings though now. Little heater is back in MH just in
case, and I have put hat, scarf and gloves back in!0 -

Plenty of time to change then. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow and for the rest of this trip. Forecast is for showers and less wind, but likely to continue in a similar vein for the next week, unfortunately.

For many years now as well as spending many weeks in the caravan touring in all areas of the UK and the continent.
We always rented cottages during early Spring before the caravan season starts and at the end of the season when sites have closed down.
In 3 weeks time we are holidaying in a cottage within a few meters from the shore of a particularly scenic sea loch on the most beautiful north west of Scotland . Really looking forward to the holiday.
At those times of the year we always notice that there are many more motorhomes travelling on trunk roads than caravans.
This might not be the case further south in the UK where they dont have any winter weather.

you just cant miss an opportunuty to 'have a go' at MHers...
yes, im sure all those MH that K has spotted on the roads are heading north to take advantage of some good old winter wild camping where they can sneak in and not get 'caught'...
after all, what else could it be....?

I looked at the web site doesn't look very exciting grass pitches no good in the wet. This is why we are going to stay in Troutbeck Head.

there are HS pitches there, but TH is by far a much better site, IMHO of course

i dont wild camp, i dont go to Scotland and i only wear a cap when playing golf
i expect theyre doing what you dont seem to be able to, minding their own business while going on holiday.
is your total angst with all things MH a result of you making a wrong decision re a caravan a while back....
is it because you really want to be out there in your old MH with the 'wild campers' but youve missed the boat?
whatever the reason for the 'chip', please could you try and resist the temptation for a snipe, the next time someone posts the word 'motorhome' in a thread.

And we are so glad that we have now the versatility of our combination and as AD states loads of capacity in the two vehicles and no restrictions of where we go in UK

JVB, no nerves touched, no pots, no kettles, but you seem hell bent in sticking the knife in to whomever has the temerity to post a paragraph about a MH or motorhoming....
K's post had nothing to do with wildcamping (or the 'wicked things' you seem to associate with this practice) it was merely an observation about traffic density.
if you could just rein in a little that would be so good. thanks again.
