Try a Haven site - amazingly  good value off peak but expensive at peak times.

Received the New Club Dictionary and Map, Find the print very small with Both. But still would Love to find sites with more facilities than just a Washroom shower block and toilets. Yes I know there usually is a ample shop included in the Office at the gate but would Love to have some sort of club house on site Bar restaunt etc  Would think this would enhance the sites with such as on par and better than these static caravan site they call Holiday Parks.

We are all different. What you would want would be about the last thing that we would wish for. If we wanted that we would use commercial sites with these extras. There are a number. We don't, and I never have, and hence why we like club sites including those without toilet and shower blocks.

Take a look on the UKcampsites website. Hundreds of caravan sites with different facilities on there. You can use tick boxes to narrow down to what suits you.

Come to Cornwall. We have dozens of sites to suit you. But they aren't CLub sites or CLs. You just have to break free !

if you are able to holiday outside of  high season you may find it useful to look at the ACSI Discount Card Scheme. There are some sites in UK in the scheme offering  very good value, some of which, such as Cofton Holiday Park  near  Dawlish Warren, have the sort of facilities you require.

I fear, Mrs C, that club sites aren't for you and you need to look elsewhere - thankfully.

That could be taken the wrong way TW smile

I take it that you meant that, like me, you were glad for no bars/restaurants etc. Not that you were glad that Mrs C should go elsewhere. smile

    Spot on, Easy. embarassed

Nothing personal, Mrs C, it's the all singing, all dancing sites I don't want. I'm sure you're a very nice person.

I think  if anyone wants sites with bar/restaurant/whatever, they need to look elsewhere than CC sites mainly.

Preferably abroad where a quiet site can still have all the facilities you require.

Well most were not that quiet in the season, when all those facilities are open. However, off peak when a lot of the facilities are closed, they are.

Are the facilities open all the time the site is, at Hillhead, or is it similar to the continent?

I'm not a great user of these extra facilities on site, but I know many I like them.  Seacroft and Hillhead are always fairly well booked up so they must be popular.  Does the site at Looe also have 'extra facilities' or have I imagined it?  In view of the popularity of these sites it wouldn't be a bad idea to have one or two more 'extra facility sites' on the network - perhaps when the club open a new site or two!!

..  also it might be worth checking out the Affiliated Sites, which tend to 'be more individual' with facilities they offer and booking procedure.

Looe has a nice heated pool and some extra play facilities but no food etc. Hillhead has the most facilities including a good shop all contained in a pleasant social complex. I've seen Hillhead in every season it is fairly sedate compared to Haven sites etc.

All we want from a club site is a decent pitch on a well maintained site which is what we mostly get. As long as they cover their costs though a few sites with other things are OK by us and certainly they should help attract families who are the clubs long term future.

Some Club members have puritan tastes. But for those of you who are  hedonists there are sites with all the trimmings which are not cheap or tacky, or Haven style.

Woodovis Park on the Devon Cornwall frontier has an indoor heated swimming pool and spa, a shop which sells most things from shampoo to champagne, fresh baked bread every morning, electric bike hire, a hog roast man twice a week, story telling sessions for children, archery, boules and table tennis, and lots more  -  before you stroll out to the country pub about half a mile away.

Do Club managers ever look at the competition?

If you want all those trimmings then I suggest that you use the sites appropriate. I suspect that most members do not want or wish to pay for an indoor heated swimming pool and spa, a shop which sells most things from shampoo to champagne, fresh baked bread every morning, electric bike hire, a hog roast man twice a week, story telling sessions for children, archery, boules and table tennis, and lots more and that is why they choose CC sites

Isn't it great that we have such a wide choice of site types. There's something out there to suit everyone. Let's celebrate that.

So it would appear ET. But if I wanted an indoor heated swimming pool and spa, a shop which sells most things from shampoo to champagne, fresh baked bread every morning, electric bike hire, a hog roast man twice a week, story telling sessions for children, archery, boules and table tennis, and lots more then I and most club members would look elsewhere. Such sites have been available for well over 20 years and I have only used occasionally.

However the way it's going, with the closure of Mildenhall, Wenlock and likely Bromyard Downs next year we won't be club sites out there to suit all tastes.

Alan, Please back away. This is a thread started by a lady who said she had enjoyed her visit to Hillhead and was looking for other sites with bar, swimming pool and clubhouse facilities.  Some of us are making suggestions which might help her. With respect, you are not. You are just repeating your own objections. Sorry.

You did not say 'with respect' Euro traveller smile

I am sorry that you feel that way fella but I thought that the OP's question has been answered on page one. There are a couple or 3? CC sites that might meet her requirements and a couple of AS sites.

The other 98% of CC sites will not.

If the sites are all 'bells & whistles' we all have the option of not using them, if they don't have the 'bells & whistles' the choice isn't there. Choice is preferable surely?. Give them 'bells & whistles' & they will comesmile
