Hard standing booking trial

All this angst about the Caravan Club's decision - is it not like saying "I will accept the result of the election, as long as I win?"
You could just accept it wasn't what posters on here (probably a small, but vocal, proportion of the total membership). And move on!
Excellent idea

Tinwheeler, we don't travel all in one go as you put it, that's why we require a night stop on a campsite. Its just on 500 miles to Portsmouth from here, we drive halfway ish. If we were to keep stoping at 12.00 to guarentee a H/S it would take us a week
to get to Portsmouth. We are all members are we not all equal or are some more equal than othersI must say there are a few on here that are seem to be I'm alright jack attitude as they can arrive at 12.00 so bu''er everyone else.

Was there an election / referendum / vote on this then? I don't recall it.
Or was it more a case of someone at Grimstead Towers over-ruling the wishes of the majority on here (even if small and vocal) without even asking us members?

Or book more often with the CC&C and guarantee a HS, and the CC lose the business.... hahahaha Marvellous Idea

That'll be me then
I can get a hard standing because of time of year/day etc. If I was having a one night stop to break a journey I would choose somewhere with plenty of hard stancing if arriving late on.

That's a bit harsh isn't it TG? Some (not me ) might say that wanting the system changed just so that you can get the type of pitch you want for a one night stopover was an example of that. But I don't think there are many showing that attitude. I can see why you'd want HS in the circumstances you describe, and I can see the argument for allowing choice of pitch type. But, as has been pointed out often enough, there are plenty of alternatives to CC sites if you wan to ensure a HS.

All these emails people are sending now, after the event. Did you send them during the trial, or just assume that comments on here were sufficient?

Hey, TG, no need to be so spiky. I wasn't criticising you but merely pointing out how others might view your situation differently. I suggest you take a deep breath and re-read my post.

one of the reasons given for the club not continuing the trial and reverting back to the current system is that pitch nights were down 1.4%
many in CT have expressed that they would be 'happy and confident' to be sure of being able to book their pitch type and for it to be available on arrival.
some of these have also suggested that, should they not be able to be guaranteed a specific pitch type (namely HS) then they may well take their business elsewhere.
the club has now placed itself between a rock and a hard place...providing the means to a pitch type and then snatching it away...
the (financial) question for the club now is....
if it loses 1.4% of pitch nights when it offers the choice, how much will it lose now that it doesn't?

that was also in mind, Alan...
thing is....formerly, not having the mechanism, they probably wouldnt have known....
now they have had the trial, there are some figures to play with...
i agree, it should open their eyes to what went on in the past.
perhaps its a case of 'the devil you (dont) know'....

Moulesy, I don't want the system changed just so I can have a 1 night on H/S while travelling, it was just 1 example as to why someone would, I want to be able to have the choice and the assurance that no matter what time I arrive and no matter what the
ground conditions are I WILL have a H/S.Tinwheeler, I did read your post, you obviously didn't read my post or else you would have twigged we were stoping half way. I am more than aware that I can book with other organisations (we have joined the C &CC) for this very reason.
We are however discussing the CC, I was one of those people that 3 years ago did lobby the club to allow bookings of H/S's after having a number of situations where we have arrived to find only a soggy grass pitch left. Like you we are M/H's so do not arrive
at 12.00 normally, but prefer to tour during the day and arrive at sites around 5 - 6 pm. Each unto their own, we all tour in our own way, there is no right way or wrong way just differant ways. At the end of the day we are all members and have the right to
voice our opinions, nothing more nothing less0 -
Or how much did it loose in the previous 5 years because members went elsewhere in order to guarantee hardstanding
Can't be a lot as many of the sites are fully booked during weekends and during the holiday periods. Plenty of members seem to be fien with the way the club is running their sites at the moment. You can't fit more than a pint in a pint pot!

In a way I agree with you NTH, but how many of those weekends are booked at last minute or well in advance on the off chance because with the CC system you can have choice, no deposits no more than 3 days to cancel. Don't get me wrong these are the things
that I like about the club, but these are the very things that can and do get abused. Neither club is perfect but I'm hoping being a member of both I can pick and choose the best bits of both0 -

systems to suit a few individuals may not be best for the membership as a whole.I haven't even stated an opinion but simply tossed an idea or two around which you clearly don't like. Nowhere did I suggest that you should book with other organisations.

Hello Tammy. If I were in your shoes, with a heavy motorhome, wanting to be sure of a hard standing pitch at 6pm. on your way from Scotland to Portsmouth I would simply book one, even if it's outside the network of either Club. How about Somers Wood at Meriden in the West Midlands? Phone Angela or Marc and you will get personal service.

Nellie, agreed....
however, there are many (mid)weeks in each year where site occupancy is not at this level....
these are the times when many a retired person might slip away off season for a nice 5-day (quiet) break.
...and in the off season, its more likely that the weather might be a bit more iffy, which in turn might lead to more folk requiring a HS.
those who travel in these periods and cant get a guaranteed HS from CC might well go 'elsewhere'.
....its this lost income that the club currently has no knowledge of.....
perhaps (decent) midweek discount and the ability to book a HS might fill those spaces?
i realise that many grass pitches are closed in the off season but we (the customers) dont know exactly when (at each specific site) until we get there...

I think you have misunderstood me Tinny, I only gave 1 situation where someone would be keen to secure a H/S, I used my own experiance for that. There are many others who also want to be able to secure a H/S when making bookings, isn't that the whole point
of this thread as it happens this year we did book a H/S with a CL owner, so as you can see I have already looked at alternatives.Like you I was making suggestions, you obviously didn't like mine either. Am I bovvered, I think not
Changing the system to suit a few individuals, seems to be a little more than a few if CT just a fraction of the membership is anything to go by, maybe the club should hold a Referendum

Actually, I don't care if you're 'bovvered' or not, TG, neither do I either like of dislike your suggestions/ways of doing things. As you yourself intimated earlier, we are individuals and make our own choices.
What I can't understand is why you're getting so het up about a point of view that I threw into the arena to show the other side of the coin. I didn't say it was my opinion and I didn't point an accusing finger at you. It was simply something to consider
in a non-personal way. If you wish to take it personally then that's up to you but I'm being completely objective and unbiased here.0 -
neither do I either like of dislike your suggestions/ways of doing things. Please explain
Am I bovvered, I think not did you not see the smiley, I was trying to lighten the mood.
I am not getting het up about a point of view, I'm putting my point across, something you do I've noticed on many occasion.
As to making it personel, I think you did point the finger.

Goldie, personally I didn't even consider sending an e mail earlier on. I assumed the CC would arrange a proper trial which was long enough for people to adjust to the new situation. I also assumed they would communicate this plan to everyone and would train the staff do deal with the "confused."
The fact that it was successful on some sites leaves a bit of a question mark with me and the fact that other non CC sites are able to let people book a pitch type. In fact the CC are already half way there with their awning and non awning, non ehu or serviced pitches. Why not go the whole hog, have an appropriate pricing structure and join the 21st century.

1. I was responding to your statement that I didn't seem to like your suggestions.
2. I've noticed you sometimes use less than appropriate smilies so they don't mean that much.
3. We are all entitled to state our points of view but you certainly gave the impression of getting het up even if you weren't.
4. You may think so but I know I did not.

We are not disagreeing. Can you not see that?
