Night Time Thefts from Awnings

I have just been reading on the forum of another caravaning organisation about a series of overnight thefts from awnings at their site at Scarborough. The method used was simply to slash the awning to gain access.

So a reminder to our people that this can happen anywhere in the country so only leave in your awning stuff you don't mind loosing.

    Must admit that I'm surprised at how seldom this seems to happen (and always grateful). I assume that this didn't happen on a CC site as Nav seems to indicate another organisation. 

    I shall carry on caravanning in bliss, if now, not so ignorant.

    The bit that puzzles me is why they slashed the awning. Surely that would make more noise than carefully unzipping?  (I don't know anyone who locks their zips?).

    I usually sleep in the awning, so hopefully my snore would put them off Undecided

    I have seen the thread and it seems to have happened there twice. No details of what was taken were given but the damage do e might be just as costly. Probably the point is do not leave small valuable items in the awning.

    Never thought about it but if I added up the value or replacement cost of the items we leave in the awning it would be scarey! Not sure where we'd stand with insurance either - a zip isn't exactly secure...

    unzipping is noisier - as a light sleeper if OH goes out to the block after I am in bed its unzipping the awning that wakes me up.

    Why would anyone sleep in an awning when you have a comfy caravan to sleep in.

    According to the report, it wasn't the canvas they cut but the plastic windows. I would imagine that was like slicing through butter with a sharp stanley knife.

    Well they can't blame the foxes for that if a knife was involved. Warning for anyone going to Abbey Wood the foxes steal anything left in awnings, they love crocs corners, be careful out there.Laughing

    We had a giant hedgehog stealing from the bin two nights running and another night a huge cat. Looked like a lynx to me

    Best way to tell if it's a lynx or not is to rub it under your arm pits and see if it helps with perspiration.Innocent
