Get real members, the days of easy come, easy go should be long gone. Deposits or even full 1st night pitch charge must be a reality
Wayne if you believe that I think you should have qualified the statement by making clear its only applicable to our crowded island and
even then only to those who never consider looking outside the CC as we both know it is very much not the case elsewhereHi David
Wayne's statement is made in the "UK Sites & Touring" Section of the CT Forum, so I would have thought the location he is addressing is self-evident?
Cheers

Read the post.
There are other camping venues in the UK such as CLs and comercial sites so whats your point ?
Or are you just attempting to make this section a "no go area" for such myself
Cheers
Hi David
The clue was actually in the post - which yes I did read!
Wayne said "Get real members...." so was clearly aiming his comments at CC members about UK sites (as it was in the UK Sites & Touring Section).
I therefore didn't see any reason why Wayne needed to "qualify" his statement in the way you suggested. That was my point.
Cheers

"would be nice to see the one that many feel is relevant....cancellations by date, relative to arrival date....
ie, how close to the 72hrs limit are the bulk of cancellations being made?"
Yes, I agree it would be interesting to see those statistics, although I suspect that even if the numbers were relatively small one or two folk would throw their hands up in horror and claim that it just shows the no deposit system is not working
and unfair!

As it is there is little chance without the stats. While these continue to be hidden from members there will always be accusations about the system.

M. You will never convince everyone, some even still believe you can double book and you haven't been able to do that for at least 5+ years. As long as you can reach the majority that should be acceptable. At the moment there is nothing official to make
a judgement either way.peedee

Rochelle has already told us they don't keep records of those who cancel just before the 72 hour deadline. Why would they? There would be nothing to gain as people who are going to book and cancel deliberately will do so just before any deadline whether it's 48 hours or 7 days.

very true.
Once the rules or limit has been set why record anything before that? would one expect the police to record all cars that don't break the speed limit or just the ones that do??

As has been explained before, the booking system will almost certainly be capable of recording exactly when people cancel and how many on each day keading up to the day they were due to arrive. In fact, it is almost certainly recording that information.
The trouble here, I would think, is that the IT staff may not have the ability to interpret / access that information.

The thing is some people have to cancel through no fault of their own. We have had to cancel 2 bookings within the 72 hour time. One was cancelled hours before setting off, the 'van was packed etc, but a phone call from mother in law put an end to that booking.
She is 85 and had a really bad case of food poisoning. We did though, on cancelling, offer to pay the full cost of the weekend. They wouldn't accept it, but we would have preferred to pay. The 2nd time, more recently was after the same person had a fall. Although
there was nothing broken she was well shaken and we just couldn't leave her. We can't be the only members who have old parents, who are not 100% any more and who will often mean bookings have to be cancelled. Actually we've decided not to book any more weekends
for this very reason and will book at the last minute in the future. Of course you can't always do this for say a fortnight's holiday.0 -

it's 48 hours or 7 days.I don't recall this but I am sure you are correct in what you say. However, it is about member satisfaction and there are enough complaints about the system to warrant further information from the Club. It shouldn't be that difficult to obtain from the booking
records. Having been inconvenienced by cancellations twice now I can understand why some complain. On the other hand I have been grateful on one occasion for a late cancellation, so it is happening for whatever reason. Like I have said before and I am sure
I am not the only one who walks away from the Club and goes elsewhere. It can be very enlightening and while the disatisfaction continues the Club is risking losing members loyalty.peedee

I am not sure how many are dissatisfied. I am not personally. I would however be quite accepting of having to pay a forefit of say £20 or a nights fee (whichever is less) for cancelling within a 72 hour window whatever the reason for cancellation. I personally
think that this would make little difference however. If I cancelled for health reasons or car troubles etc it would be the least of my worries. If I cancelled a weekend due to weather (I no longer weekend) I would think 'cost me £20 instead of the expected
£40 for 2 night stay and saved me money on fuel as well and so not really out of pocket'.0 -
I am sure the Club could extrapolate any amount of statistics on cancellations but as TW suggests to what end? The Club have a clear policy on late cancellations which seems to be accepted by most. If and when the Club make the judgement that they need
to look at the policy again there is little point spending time and money extracting more information. I am sure the club looked at the statistics before they introduced the policy which would be the sensible way to proceed.David

We once cancelled a weekend at short notice... All the caravans at our storage (including ours) were snowed in!
The only other time we cancelled, a slow leak under the bath led to water suddenly pouring in great quantities through the kitchen ceiling... We deliberated but decided we'd probably better deal with it rather that go off in the van.
Both times the sites in question were very sympathetic, and we didn't even get the email warning that we expected.
We only ever book with the intention of travelling, don't mind bad weather, and like the deposit-free booking of club sites. We would, however, be more than happy to pay deposits on CLs.

Given that a majority of posters want the information on late cancellations, and it would cost little or nothing to obtain, why not just release it?
Write your comments here...I don't
+1, me neither.

I am a late cancellation offender. I had booked Kendal for the weekend just gone but when last minute pitches became available at Bolton Abbey I cancelled Kendal and re-booked for Bolton Abbey.
That's a perfect example of how the system gives members a little perk. We have also done that in the past when Broadway had been showing full so we booked Moreton in Marsh instead but then switched when a pitch became available at Broadway. Good to have
that flexibility, I think.0 -
