Last minute cancellations

Sadly some members simply miss the real point, which is :
Members have decided to commit to a finacial and moral liability by booking a pitch. By doing so they have disadvantaged other members from the use of that pitch by that booking. So is it fair to other members who may have wished to have booked that pitch
that the booking member can simply cancel the booking or simply not show without any financial or more importantly moral liabilty. Indeed when commiting to the booking any member must have considered the possibilty of having to cancel and the implications
of such an act.Get real members, the days of easy come, easy go should be long gone. Deposits or even full 1st night pitch charge must be a reality

Managed to remove error page. However, I think page 6 is lost forever.
Roll on the the new improved non error strewn forum.
I thought that the latest down time was to remove this problem....seems I'm wrong again!!

I've not missed the real point and I don't appreciate being told to 'get real'. What you overlook is that people can cancel for genuine reasons but, as usual, you assume the worst of everyone.

Tinwheeler, your just rude, clearly you do not understand how to debate. There is no need for your constant rudeness

Sandringham

Thank you. Sandringham has, I believe about 140 pitches and David Klyne has suggested wardens (or the club) hold back about 5% of pitches for contingencies even if the site is showing full. 5% of 140 is, of course 7 pitches. Mystery solved (possibly)!

If you re read the posts W&J you will see it was you rather than me who was rude by telling people to get real.
Still, I know how much you enjoy having a go at me so I'll let you continue to judge by your own standards.

I think that it's thee that doesn't live in the real world. Many people these day do not even know what a "moral liability" is, they are just booking a site for a few days holiday. We now do live in an easy come easy go world, thankfully.

Ian the majority of CC members will cancel well within the given time if they know that they'll be unable to take up their booking, but I suspect that most of those that just don't turn up don't give a fig about others, and so have no moral liability.

It would certainly be interesting to know if the OP discussed this with the site warden to establish the facts?

I'd loved to have witnessed this Nirvana, this perfect world that some allude to, you know the one-everyone puts others first, never expects anything for themselves, no one is grumpy but has a smile for their fellows. It's a world that never existed other
than in the minds of dreamers & Walt Disney. Hope for the best but plan for the worst folks, that way the world won't let you down as much as it seems to.0 -
As far as I remember (stayed twice) Sandringham is large site spread over a large area, with lots of curves and access roads on the site. It would take some time to walk around, and even at 5mph it would take a while. So to count exactly 7 empty pitches would take a significant determined effort, so we must thank the OP for taking time out of a holiday to do this.

Wayne if you believe that I think you should have qualified the statement by making clear its only applicable to our crowded island and even then only to those who never consider looking outside the CC as we both know it is very much not the case elsewhere
Hi David
Wayne's statement is made in the "UK Sites & Touring" Section of the CT Forum, so I would have thought the location he is addressing is self-evident?
Cheers

If all members registered a credit card with the club, the club could then easily take a deposit/penalty charge from 'no shows' which would also avoid the need for deposits in the normal course of things. A solution to satisfy the 'no deposit' aficianados
and the 'pro deposit' brigade. Every one a winner.0 -

and the 'pro deposit' brigade. Every one a winner.A sensible compromise......overcomes the argument (such as it is) about having to pay a small part of the holiday in advance but still presents the no-shows and the late cancellations with a dis-incentive to book unless they really intend to go.

I just booked a hotel and they offered me a cheaper price if I paid in full for the night up front and it was non returnable.
How about that for Club sites ? Flexible cancellations without deposits as now, or cheaper rates for those who pay in advance when they book.

Now there is an idea. I could pay £2,500 or so in advance. Sounds great doesn't it
One of my bookings in August/September was for 5 nights at £30 a night on a commercial site that wanted payment in full (August Bank Hol may be the reason for in full - I don't know). I am glad not to pay for all my 120 nights away in full. Some sites want
a deposit and or full payment within a couple of weeks of the booked date. I can well do without that faff0 -
Hello everyone, I have come to this discussion very late so my point may well have been put forward previously.
It seems to me that the ability to book many nights in December and then cancel the ones you don't want, is similar to going to a party, grabbing a full plate of chicken legs and only returning them when you have had your fill whilst others are then on the sweets.

while there is the ability to do that, it actually doesn't happen in most cases, if at all, in practice. The club did give its booking day statistics and such multiple bookings did not appear in them
