Crossways tent pitches

I'll happily "watch out" for tent campers, my family have tents, (they don't use much EHU either, mostly gas and solar.) They might try vanning one day. I'm not sure whether I'd recommend the CC for tent camping, attitudes on here are antediluvian.

Presumably Tent users pay a non-member surcharge? I logged out of CC but could still not find details of tent pitch costs whether logged in or not
I assume they could join as members just like any other individual - having a caravan isnt mandated on the membership form, as long as you pay your money I dont suppose they care.

On commercial sites, or sites which openly have a policy that you pay for a pitch and then put whatever you want to live in on it then that is fine - its an equal playing field for all. However as someone has commented they wouldnt expect to play tennis at a golf club, and dedicated tent pitches being introduced on Caravan Club sites which are already pushed for pitches strikes me as a similar.

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay, the Sites Operations Team's response is as follows:
The future of The Club very much rests on encouraging people to consider taking up caravanning. The starting point for many caravanners, especially those with young families, has been under canvas. Many of our current sites already have a small number of tent pitches, which have always been there to satisfy the lease conditions for our use of the land. Caravanning and camping have integrated very well on those sites and it has also provided a welcome opportunity for members to take along their ‘camping’ relatives on holiday. By opening a few more of our sites to campers, we can offer a great experience on high quality sites to those who may eventually be our members of the future and, most importantly, assist the longer term sustainability of The Club.
We want to keep alive the wonderful pastime of touring by continuing to welcome families to our beautiful sites; we know that once they stay, it will not be long before they are converted to caravanning and become future members.
Existing touring pitches haven’t been taken for tents; at Crossways in particular the area known as ‘The Warren’ had proven difficult in accepting caravans outside of the drier months with even the slightest amount of rain affecting their use for touring however the positioning of all motor vehicles in the more firm section of this area permitted the area as a whole to be better utilised with much lighter tent camping. The touring pitches that were previously in this area have been relocated to other sections of the site therefore increasing the maximum number of usable touring pitches throughout the season as well as introducing additional pitching with tents. Site occupancy therefore has the potential to increase because of the introduction of tents and not in spite of them albeit we acknowledge that occupancy of these pitches can still significantly grow over time once their presence are greater realised by members and non-members alike, particularly in the instance of members talking along their ‘camping’ relatives on holiday. It is not the position of the Club to have multiple use pitches, such as other clubs, therefore we would not use these pitches for additional touring during periods of low tent uptake.
We have simply identified sites with underutilised land available which has been converted to pitching for camping. The number of pitches being offered at each site is low to ensure that ratios for facilities are not impacted. Where possible we are working to increase the number of caravan and motorhome pitches on the network by either acquiring new sites or extending existing ones.
