Hard standing pitch sizes with awning
we are in the process of looking at new awnings, we have seen one that is 3000 deep this seems slightly deeper than most others so with the caravan being 2230 wide we would require a hard standing 5230 wide. l realise that there is probably a lot of variation
on sizes on hard standings but is there a minimum size of hard standing on club sites, if there is would our outfit fit on it without going onto the grass.

Hi Erc,
I've moved your post as per the instructions given in the sticky thread which states that the Ask The Expert LIVE Section not be used for general enquiries.
Regarding your awning. As you say, hardstanding pitches can vary quite significantly but the minimum width would permit a caravan and vehicle. You would obviously need to book a 'standard pitch with awning' but you would not be permitted to allow your awning to be placed on the grass strip which separates pitches as this would be in contravention of the gap required between units.
Hope this helps.

Couple one of those and one of the 300 cm awnings and the CC are going to need to lose some pitches if they want to conform to the 6m fire gap never mind the hardstanding area.

I asked the club this question before I bought my 3m deep awning. Got a very non commital answer. Bought the awning anyway and never had a problem.

We were told by a warden that on new sites they are 9m square but old ones may well not be as well sized.

I think it will depend entirely on what site you visit. Cirencester for example only has awning pitches, but a substantial number are narrow and you park your car across the front. I would think with an awning of that size you would struggle not to stray
into the grass divide. Cirencester is perhaps an extreme example, but I think you will find most sites will have some awning pitches that are tighter than others. I think this is mainly due to the 6 metre rule, which means the peg is not always placed on the
pitch in the optimum position to allow for positioning of your three items.0 -

Correction: Cirencester has both hard standing & grass but the grass section tends to be closed down out of main summer season. With the tendency for the club to put in more & more hardstandings using a larger awning may become an issue for more of us

Just curious as we dont use a large awning but has anyone actually been told by a warden that their car-caravan-awning combination is too wide for the pitch and they cannot use it?

A good question, as it is not unusual to see cars with one wheel on the grass divide. Not a problem in dry weather. But can result in a right mess in wet conditions. I suppose the car could be left in the car park in this eventuality.
