Have you not considered the Edinburgh CC site?

We tend to avoid Club sites but used Edinburgh recently - worth it as it is very handy for city with bus stop nearby 'ish'! It's not a bad site at all and we much prefer the tranquility etc of CLs.

It looks a fairly obvious choice for the OP's needs.

Given the time of year I would also think the club site in Edinburgh would be the best bet. I don't know if its open at that time of year but there is also Moreton Hall and I think they now have hardstandings. It was many years since we stayed there but
the immediate transport links were better than the Club site.

Edinburgh is open all year, as is Gibson Park in Melrose.  From there you can get a bus, or walk, (about a mile and a half) to Tweedbank and the train to Waverley Station right in the centre.

Which site you use depends a lot on where your parents stay. Probably the club site and Morton Hall are the best two there but which I would choose would depend on where I wanted to go in Edinburgh as it is not the most car friendly city.

If you want a pleasant country site just to the East then Yellowcraig could be worth a look.

I used to enjoy the site at Aberfeldy. What became of it?

Is that 10 minutes walk or 10 minutes drive ?

We prefer to leave the caravan on a site and use public transport in, especialy big cities so if it's 10 mins walk we will try this site.

That would be by car, Fysh. The road past the site are not the best for walking along, IMO

Which site is that? the council run one which used to be on the right as you entered Aberfeldy from the South or are you thinking of Maragowan?

To the OP we have stayed at the Edinburgh site a fair bit, the walk to the bus stop takes about 10 mins, however thereis a private minibus that runs from the site for a small fee. Getting around Edinburgh is easy as the buses go into Princess street, everything
    is accessable from there.

That is a Camping in the Forrest site run by the C&CC if it is the one I am thinking about. There is a commercial site further South but cannot remember a CC site there.

Write your comments here...My mistake.Embarassed Meant Aberlady! Think it was set in a walled garden. Ages since I've been to the Edinburgh
area. Memo to self. Must pay return visit.

    Ok Thanks for that NTH.

We usually have a meal out and have a couple of drinks so driving is a non starter.

You are thinking about Gosford Gardens, which was closed about 20 years ago.  The clubs lease was not renewed as there were plans to build there but that has never happened.

Gosford Gardens was a super site and one we used a lot when the kids came with us. In my view yet another great loss to the network.

Thanks folks. We stayed there late September one year, played a lot of golf and walked the dog everywhere. Really enjoyed it but it closed quite soon afterwards. Didn't know if it went Independent.

I know it's not in Edinburgh, but Balbirnie CC site in Markinch, Fife is just a 10-15 minute walk from Markinch railway station where there are regular trains to Edinburgh. Trains take about 40 minutes to Edinburgh. It is next to the Golf Course and fabulous dog walking,

Sorry! Just noticed it will be January you are going and they are not open all year! But keep in mind for summer visits.

Not sure if Seton Sands (a bit like Haven) is open all year? It has a bus stop outside with direct buses into Edinburgh.
