Off topic but - I woul be happy if December Booking was on a Sunday.
Wonder why there is not as much fuss though about the August booking opening? Sites not as busy early in the year I suppose
Not sure if the problem is that they also want to be fair to those who do not have internet access and therefore need to have the office manned for telephone bookings.
...but it shouldnt be beyond the wit of man (or a leading leisure business) to have telephones manned one weekend a year, should it.....really?
My thoughts also

I would think the number who dont have any internet access is a lot smaller than the number who are at work on a Wednesday morning at 9am. The 'the current sytem is fair because it suits me' brigade will say if you are at work you can always get someone else to book for you - the same applies to those without internet access. For some things internet is now the only way so those people who have no internet must be finding a way around that.
How would members feel if the CC saved additional expense by opening booking at 2am on a Wednesday morning?
Fine by me - if I really wanted to book a site it seems a small price to pay to have to get up a couple of hours early and most people should have the option to access it at that time. (Obviously not all - if you work nights or shifts then maybe you wont, but this is a relatively small number)
Why bother book SO far in advance.Touring vans were meant for spur of the moment holidays
Because you have to put in holidays at work etc. Caravans can be used in whatever way suits you - touring or otherwise. People who tour tend to get sniffy about those who book in advance and stay on one site but its just a different way of using your van - possibly at a different time of life. We cannot do spur of the moment holidays - organising days off work and horse care makes it impossible so we use our caravan the way it works for us.

Why bother book SO far in advance.Touring vans were meant for spur of the moment holidays. Never book but always find a CC OR CL in the area we want all through the year.
We don't go away on the spur of the moment. We used to book a month or so ahead and then we found that we had problems on occasion getting a pitch on the occasional site. This year we toured Scotland for 7 weeks having booked a series of sites on a desired
tour route generally staying 5 nights on each. It is far easier for us to sit at the dining table and plan a route before going. When we came back from Scotland we were only home for 3 weeks before going off on another tour using 6 sites staying 5 nights on
each. We will have been home for 4 weeks before we go off again to visit another 6 sites (31 nights). As we normally plan a tour route for each of these breaks it really makes it no more trouble to do this at the start of December. It also means I can get it all done and dusted and be confident of getting the sites that we want in the required order. In
the past it was a nuiscance if we had decided on a circular route going clockwise in an area for example to find that we could not get on one of the sites and having to perhaps travel the other way and alter a load of already made bookings.0 -
We are the same as ET, very little is not planned well ahead in UK.
Weekends are always going to be the problem, midweek is fine, but every week has a weekend so where do you go then if you have not booked ahead?
Different "over there" where there are far more sites and pitches.

That's just about as far away as it is possible to get from our modus operandi.
Bet we would still get on just fine if we ever met on site though.

We tend not to book ahead these days, differant when we worked and holidays had to be booked. Nowadays if we are holidaying in the UK we tend to first look at the weather, East/West/North/South then where in that area would we like to visit, check out sites
then go. We hate spending our time away in bad weather so avoid it at all cost, so sites are booked usually the night before we move on, we don't tour in high season and the shoulder seasons usually sees us abroad, so just the winter and the odd week or two
in between other trips.0 -
We tend not to book ahead these days,
Nieither do I unless it is imperative that I need to be at that location. Got my first THS lined up, I'm advised plenty of room available, no booking required, arrive when you like, leave when you like.
I leave the weekends to those who want to fight over them!

I find it far far harder to arrange a time when my girlfriend and I are both available for a week's holiday than it is to book a site to go to.
