Weekender warriors are back in force

Has anyone actually phoned a site to see if anything is available, and had a word with the Wardens? Reliance upon technology is good but sometimes, especially close to the date required, a phone call can be much better. It usually works
for us if we want dates either side. That said, if this is the BH that has all the Saturdays booked, then anyone who didn't think ahead that it might be busy, needs to get a tad more organised if only a Club Site will do!

This will surely help. As will the rolling programme of bookings and the cancellation policy.
The rolling bookings system is a massive plus - much fairer and surely stops the systems getting jammed up on 'that' day like the CC suffers from. Maybe it is beyond CC's IT dinosaur though.

I did speak to a warden about the Saturday booming problem. He confirmed the problem apart from weekenders is others booking Saturday through a week to a Sunday who overlap with others doing the same thing for the following week. The numbers are not that great but they do cause the Saturdays to be booked up with a few pitches available for Friday.
There are a number of sites close to motorways that get a lot of one night bookings as people break their journeys but there are only a limited number of these.

When speaking to "several" wardens (when out with our friends) the concensus is that most complaints about weekends being booked up, does not hold water, as most bookings seem to be overlaps of longer periods there are some larger sites in popular areas
that have what looks like big w/end arrivals but they do not normally block book0 -
We never seem to have a problem finding somewhere, if a site isn't available we look elsewhere, we book in advance if we can, system seems good and fair as it is. Same for everyone.
That's always my argument, David. CC treats us equally and we all have the same opportunities. Some people's personal circumstances create obstacles to them booking in advance but CC cannot be blamed for that.

100% disagree....
if you mean by 'personal circumstances' that they go to work, then there is not an equal opportunity and the club can do something about it by moving the booking opening to a time other than one on a 'normal working day' morning.
while no system will be perfect, its not that difficult to do and it would make things far 'more' equal than things are at present.
Write your comments here...looking at the ages of members on the site I doubt it very much that a large majority of people cannot book on the opening day frenzy, if that's what you are referring. Especially with smart phones, laptops, tablets, wifi nearly
everywhere, however if the member can't book in advance then they have to take what there is, be it a Cl, private or different club site. We can't always have what we want and should not throw the teddy out when it does not go our way.0 -

100% disagree with you, BB. Not everyone who works does so Monday to Friday so there will always be people who will be disadvantaged by their own circumstances. It's not only people who work, of course, as those who care for family members, for instance,
have personal circumstances which limit their ability to book ahead.Anyway, what has the December booking day to do with this? The OP is not complaining about that but finds he/she cannot book in August as weekends are full. They may have been booked in December or only a month ago.

I agree, frenzy day is irrelevant as far as this thread is concerned.
But I think the OP, who has been noticeably absent from the thread since starting it, is probably sitting on site somewhere rubbing their hands in glee at all the unnecessary fuss his/her OP has stirred up!

BB did say a 'normal working day'
What is 'normal' when businesses work 7 day weeks?

anything you want it to be ..... but that's why BB put 'normal working day' in quote marks. I work, but nothing like Mon - Fri 9 till 5

i also said....
"while no system will be perfect, its not that difficult to do and it would make things far 'more' equal than things are at present."
...which i believe to be true...
...and ive not thrown any teddy bears out of anywhere, just commenting on how i dont think CC treats all members equally when it comes to advance bookings....december being the most popular time to do this...
either way, i dont book any CC campsites in december....
Write your comments here...I wasn't suggesting you personally had thrown your teddy bear out.

Write your comments here...define a normal working day morning BB as Mrs TV works Saturday which to the retail industry is a normal working day!

If I go into my local travel agent on a Thursday or Friday during the school holidays and hope to book a holiday to the Costa del Somewhere, I will have very little, if any, choice. A last minute decision to book during peak holiday period will almost invariably
result in lack of choice/disappointment.0 -
Saturday nights are the most booked up nights of all. Workers taking a short break will most probably want at least a Saturday night. Anyone away for a week will also want a Saturday night.
Now we tour a lot and often don't know where we will be until a day or so before we move. Often we will book Friday/Saturdays in advance and work around that or use the CC&C club as they seem to have more availability at week ends.

Off topic but - I woul be happy if December Booking was on a Sunday.
Wonder why there is not as much fuss though about the August booking opening? Sites not as busy early in the year I suppose
Not sure if the problem is that they also want to be fair to those who do not have internet access and therefore need to have the office manned for telephone bookings.

Whatever day/ time you chose to open a new booking period, I'm afraid that today's culture is for a huge initial rush, which may well overwhelm, albeit for a short period, internet capability/ booking desk phone line capacity. There are two traditional ways
of dealing with this 1. Pay money to temporarily increase capacity 2. Moderate the impact of the initial rush by opening at a time where a reduced number of people have easy access. How would members feel if the CC saved additional expense by opening booking
at 2am on a Wednesday morning? It's a serious question, because it would allow more people, many of whom work on weekdays, to participate in early booking if it was really important to them. I won't be one, I'll be asleep.0
