Weekender warriors are back in force
what a surprise cant get a week in because most our cc local sites are fully booked friday & saturday by the weekenders warriors , i hear you say go to other sites not cc ones , Why ! because the commercial sites will not let the weekenders block up the
weekends at peak times !
Thats how the cc should work and put a policy in place to stop just these days being booked up only and should be a minimun of 4 nights at these peak times

A number of commercial sites will not permit just a Friday/Saturday night booking in peak times I read. Not sure how true how widespread that is generally but I have read such when I have looked at one or another site's web page. I am glad that the CC does
not have that restriction.I am unsure what booking restriction C&CC have on some sites.

''Weekender Warriors'' How rude! Why should people who can only do weekends be penalised just because you didnt get your act together and book a site well in advance?
Many people cannot do 4 nights - this thing called 'work' gets in the way. Doesnt make them any the less members, its just the way of life. Some people do one night stopovers too, on their way to somewhere else/to catch a ferry etc - how would they manage a 4 night minimum booking?

seeing as it's August and school holidays the weekends are more likely to be taken up with overlapping bookings
A mixture of booking tyopes. An additional aspect is that when I was holidaying with children I would often choose to go away from a Friday and stay 9 nights thereby taking up two weekends. When not actually on holiday I would still weekend

I can sympathise to an extent. I would like to see some restrictions as I've said before - say a maximum number of bookings anyone can hold or a maximum number of nights held at any one time.
I would be more than happy to see a maximum number of bookings held by any person - say 5 or 6 - because I think that would be a fair way to ensure everyone gets a little slice of the pie, so to speak, rather than some hogging the whole pie.
I wouldnt be happy to see any type of bookings prioritised over another type though - whether they are one night, two nights, four nights or fourteen they should be eqally valid. Otherwise it is a slippery slope - lets prioritise family bookings over couples
in the peak season for example as they generate more income per pitch,0 -
Will I be able sell on my unwanted rights to make five or six Club site bookings - in the same way as I sell on the unwanted Camping Cheques which come with my ferry bookings? Money, money, money !

A restriction on number of bookings would see me looking for pitches elsewhere sadly. This year we were in Scotland for 7 weeks We used 10 sites (as it happened only 7 were CC sites. We were back for under 3 weeks before going off for 4.5 weeks using 6 CC
sites.0 -
One of the good "alternatives" offered by the CC is the lack of restrictions on booking single or even two nights. Can't see any justification for that to change or for a limit on the number of bookings folk can make, although it wouldn't affect us personally
since we only ever hold maybe a couple of bookings at a time.As for the OP's apparent surprise that they can't book a week in August (presumably, I suppose meaning you can't make a booking now), well, is that unexpected really? It's peak season, many will be starting a (longer) break, many will be finishing, no reason
to assume there are vast numbers just there for weekends is there?0 -
When speaking to "several" wardens (when out with our friends) the concensus is that most complaints about weekends being booked up, does not hold water, as most bookings seem to be overlaps of longer periods there are some larger sites in popular areas that have what looks like big w/end arrivals but they do not normally block the w/ends

Many sites are pretty full in September as those of us who have avoided the main school holiday period get out again. We will be out late August and all of September
...We are out most of September into October, and we go this Thursday until the 25th of this month and all our trips cover at least two weekends

Lets "not" prioritise any group or individual over any other person. Let's "not" allow favoured customers to pre book individual pitches, lets "not" start to contrive rules which favour one person's needs over another. Let's instead, keep a level playing field for all members. Book when it suits you, arrive and depart during approved times, cancel within published timeframes, lets adhere to rules re dog leads and fouling, ditto ballgame areas, noise and van spacing. Let's not discriminate against old or young, children or dogs, and let's speak kindly about our enthusiastic wardens. In fact, let's be nice to each other, whether you believe or don't in motor movers, BBQs, fixed beds, foreign vans or any other personal choice. I know that the world is a bit overcrowded, but there's space for us all if we consider other people as well as our own needs.
Sermon over!

Banff. You posted a very similar moan winging about weekends being booked up this time last year.
Clearly not learned anything. Next year plan in advance.
Edit. Sorry, cant get the link to work.

But it's not a level playing field from booking day! Members that don't work on a Wednesday or are retired have a distinct advantage.
There is another thread about arrival times not being adhered too - again not a level playing field. I could go on.

Banff, with all respect, you complained about not being able to get a weekend exactly the same time last August. I understand your frustration, although am a tad puzzled at you allowing the same issue to blight your holiday two years running. Sometimes a
bit of flexibility, or better forward planning can pay dividends, and I hope you manage to sort something out.0 -
I don't know which particular weekend you are looking at, but having just had a look at the late availability for the next 3 weekends, there are lots of pitches available all 3 weekends! And that includes the BH weekend at the end of August. True, some
sites are booked up, but by no means all. Lots available in Devon and Cornwall for example. If your first choice is not available, why not spread your net a bit wider, and try elsewhere? You never know, it may be somewhere you hadn't even considered, and turn out really nice.
With due respect, it is August and peak holiday time, and in actual fact I'm surprised at how many pitches are available on various sites.

Like others said some of us have to work so only have weekends to go away so dont blame your ineptitude to get off your backside and book your holiday in advance on people booking to get away when they are not at work i.e. Saturday and Sunday.
Just as an FYI yesterday I booked 3 sites for the Bank Holiday weekend, 2 CL's and 1 Club Site in the area we want to visit so there is plenty of availability if you look. If you leave it till last minute then you will of course likely not get your first
choice (we did) but beggars cant be chooseers as they say.I am later today going to sort out our plans for this weekend and I am sure I will find somewhere though not a club site as there are none in our area so probably a CL or private site.

Just done a quick late availability for the coming weekend only counted pitches available for friday and saturday and there are over 1400 pitch nights available!!
OK some areas may be short on pitches but generally there are still plenty available. As others have said bit of pre planning its not difficult to get a week even now.

There is generaly still plenty of availability of pitches in the evening on booking day and later.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing i could book to go away for 4+ nights every time we go away, but almost all working couples/families only get weekends off (and as a shift worker the 1 in 5 weekends I actually get off to spend time with my family are pretty
damn precious!). I'm certainly not staying at home just to leave a pitch available for someone who doesn't plan long trips in advance! If you want a certain site/fixed dates you have to book early, it's the same wherever you go on whatever sort of holiday
in fact.0 -
What is causing all this ill feeling towards those who want to go away on weekends on club sites and those who want a week away across the weekend is the perception that weekends are being block booked in advance. No one on CT really knows if this is true or not.
Why can the club not put this one to rest as only they have the info and it's been causing grief for years.

Not on the prime sites there arent - they are all gone by lunchtime on booking day which is - as said - disadvantaging those who work.
