The 12 metre rule

Does it only apply to CC sites?

Having just spent a week at West Bay commercial site (and this applies to many other commercial sites here andbi Europe) the pitches were very tight. Caravan, porch awning , car right up against the awning, pitch full. My car was so close to the hedge boundary
that I couldn't open the passenger doors. My van was so  close to the boundary hedge on that side that I couldnt access the water etc without leaning over the hedge from the next pitch.  Next pitch on car side had neighbours van a matter of inches away.

Van and awning say 5 metres. Car 2.2 metres. Both sides touching boundary hedge. Same for all other pitches.

And the permanent vans were even closer together. Jammed in like sardines.

Planning rules apply to most sites, possibly some are "interpreted" slightly different. We don't stay on sites that give us little room and no privacy so can't comment from personal experience. Busy Club Sites are usually not our choice, but out of season,
most are fine if you choose your pitch with care.

Next time perhaps consider the C&CC Temp Holiday Site in the next but one field.

Plenty of space and these THS's are held 2 or 3 times a year over several weeks in that massive field. Closer to the pubs too in Burton Bradstock

Under a tenner a night and it's the same beach at the end of the day but you need to use your own facillities and have a solar panel or have some way to charge your batteries.

    Just something to think about.

It's 6m gap between units and 3m between ancilliary items - cars, awnings etc.

It's not law but a recommendation which some authorities adhere to and some don't. CC chooses to apply it - maybe due to pressure from insurers.

Your experience certainly makes CC sites seem spacious, Nuts.

We regularly walk through the bottom of this site to get to the ocean (alongside the River Bride) and we cannot understand how this site can charge more than 3 times what we have paid 100 yards away and be crammed in like that.

The West Bay site is very busy and expensive just now, a lot more room there after the main holiday! But there is often a rally alongside the river Brit as you enter West Bay. I think Fysherman means the THS at Burton Bradstock which is a bit further up the coast both good alternatives.Wink

Nice spot for a holiday.Smile The THS at Burton is at Manor farm I think, alongside the Freshwater Bay commercial site. Hope to go to the Burton one if I can get a few days off...unlikely at the moment.Frown

Apologies Fysherman if I've muddied the waters!! (The Bride and the Brit..)

Don't think we are going next year as we will be overseas but it's a cracking doo and loads of room.

    As tight as this?

I know a lot of people complain about the march of hardstanding pitches but at least they do provide a decent pitch footprint on Club sites. When parked on grass in rows, even if the pitches are correctly spaced it always seems crowded to me.

Write your comments here...Hi Fysherman. Saw that site. Portaloos. No thanks. We only use the commercial siteswhen we have grandkids with us, as they usually have pools, playgrounds, and importantlybonus full service pitches.

Whennjust yhev2 of us, we tend to use the CC sites that have full service pitches. I'm not whingeing about club sites and 12 metres, we enjoy the space. Just asking out of curiosity.

No probs nuts we all like diferent things. We wouldn't use someone else's toilets no matter how clean they might look. Much prefer our own.

It's great that we have alternatives to choose from.

The CL I'm on has HS with space for barrels, van, awning plus a big grass area and separated by shrub borders. 15m spacing. Laughing

I remember that picture. Morn Hill and the angle is a bit deceptive. They are spaced out much more than in the other picture taken somewhere abroad.

Don't try getting to Bladon Chains this weekend, unless  you have one of the thousands of free tickets given away by the BBC (your money remember) because they can't sell them for the Countryfile Live do at Blenheim. Roads around here are gridlocked unless
    you know the back roads.
