M6 J37 to Hawes via A684 Sedbergh
The route from th M6 at Junction 37 to Hawes via Sebergh is not recommended for towing according to the site directions due to being narrow and difficult in places. Can anyone tell me where these places are? And how difficult would they be for an under
7 metre motorhome?

There are lots of places where the stone walls give little scope for getting over, if a wide vehicle comes the other way. Also very bendy so you cannot see far ahead, plus some steep gradients. We have a caravan, rather than a Motorhome, I certainly would not use it. Hopefully someone with a Motorhome can advise.

Thanks for replies so far. With a motorhome the view forward is better on the bendy bits. I just had a look on Google satellite/street view, and the narrow bits seem a short stretch in Sedbergh, Garside as mentioned, plus a few narrow bridges.
We will want to head north on the M6, so that seems to leave the alternative as via either Garsdale Head or Buttertubs Pass to Brough, then A66 up to Penrith. Is this a better alternative anyone?

you could go sedburgh route then take B6259 to Kirby Stevens Brough Penrith. Pretty sure that road is ok and you will have turned off before you get to the narrow bits of the sedbergh road. Do not take the road through muker. Get a second opinion on the
B6259 its a while since I used the road and I may havevrose tinted spcs on0 -
Less narrow, but longer, but still "scenic" -
M6 to J37 (Tebay)
Head towards Kirkby Stephen
R on B6259 towards Garsdale Head
Stop off at Moorcock Inn for refreshments
L on A684 to Hawes
Thanks Goldie, is that J38 Tebay?
Refreshments at the Moorcock Inn - what a wonderful idea!

The recommended route from J36 through to Ingleton on A65 and then over the top using the B6255 is no problem & scenic too. We've done it towing a 7.5m caravan, comfortably

That's the route we use too with a 7.5m MH; I'd have thought coming from the south on the M6 that would be the better route than coming off at junction 37.

This is the route we always use too. Although I'm towing a caravan.

And me too!
I have done the other route, with a TA caravan and wasn't to concerned (but didn't meet to much oncoming HGV traffic)

The Ingleton route would be our route too, coming from or heading for M6 south. My original post didn't make it clear that I was looking at routes to/from M6 north. Goldie and spk have come up with the answer for that I think.
Thanks all.

When I looked at your location (West Midlands)I assumed you were coming from the south, I didn't realise you were approaching from the north.

Thanks for that explanation, I must try to be more careful in future..... Not that any replies were wasted, it's always good to have information about routes.
