Hi again,

As some of you are aware we will be taking our first proper trip to Ramslade Nr Paignton in September.

Has any one been recently? We have booked a grass pitch, wondered if anyone has any tips for this site.

Cheers

Dave

I've not been for 2 or 3 years, G. The site is much better since it was upgraded.

I would say the only negatives are the approach road and the actual exit from the site (Unless it's been altered since I visited.) Both need care and it's important you follow the directions given on the website/handbook for approach as there are some very narrow lanes in the area. The road is OK if you take it easy.

The site is between Paignton and Totnes. The former I found a little over commercialised when we visited recently but it and Torquay and Brixham are worth a look. There are supermarkets in Paignton not far from the site. Totnes is quieter and quainter - a market town. There is a pleasant walk along the River Dart along by the Totnes CC site at Steamer Quay. (Incidentally, it's the only CC site on the network with no EHUs.) Also worth a visit are Dartmouth to the west and Teignmouth and Dawlish to the east.

    Enjoy.

We visited in June on a HS pitch.  Must say it is one of the best sites we have visited, the facilities are immaculate as is the site.

Per Tinweeler follow the directions given, and take care, its not that bad just a tad tight in places.

Two further tips for visits - the NT estate at Coleton Fishacre where you could spend almost a whole day wadering around the rounds (you don't say if you are a dg owner, but dogs are allowed in much of the grounds - unusual for NT) and also, down in the
village of Stoke Gabriel where there are nice views and a walk beside the estuary and there is (or used to be) a marvellous little restaurant (think it's called Emma's but may be another girl's name!) - great food, but unlicensced so BYO wine!

    Hope that helps!
Happy. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

GC, I've already said access isn't the best but it's by no means the worst. The road had been used by many people towing caravans before you and they have coped. Yes, it's a bus route which proves the lane cannot be that narrow. The site would not be thriving
if access was as terrible as some make out.

do you need to reassess your ability to tow?

Its not that bad, there are about three narrow sections in the whole lane which you can quite clearly see on coming traffic most of which will give way to caravans.

Write your comments here...Its a bus route and lorries go there so no isues for a caravan or motorhome then unless of course you cannot drive or tow.  The road is no better or worse than many others we have been on, just take it easy on the narrow stretches
and be prepared to pull over....

If you took the mind set to stick to easy access and normal A roads, your choice of sites would be very limited me thinks Happy

I'm surprised that anyone should avoid going to Ramslade - hundreds of folk seem to manage it successfully every year. It's an excellent site in a great area with so many attractions nearby. There are a couple of narrow sections on the road, but the same
could be said for many other sites in Devon & Cornwall; it just requires a little care. Just go for it! Happy

Been to Ramslade a few times access road no problem you can see if anybody is coming the oposite way before you go into the narrower bits. Never found it a problem. Nice site.

Quite right, GC. Weigh up the number of posters who say it's OK against the one who says it's not.
