If you stay on the Camping-in-the-Forest sites, especially the 'basic' ones like Matley Wood, the horses will quite likely come right up to your 'van and poke their nose in the door.

One night at Setthorns 'something'  was snoring very loudly for several hours just outside the 'van. Assumed it was a deer or horse  ..... or maybe a boar?

If you want to see wild donkeys, Lyndhurst common is an almost certainty.... and they certainly won't let you eat your fish-and-chips in peace.

We were leaving Black Knowl after a visit and several ponies decided to have a lie down and snooze in the entrance road....they weren't too keen on being moved so it took quite a bit of coaxing to clear our exit.Smile

They quite often in hot weather gather under the trees outside the entrance to the site.  They also like to gather outside the Tesco express.

On a serious note. Please do watch out for them on the roads, more are getting killed every year.  Only a couple of weeks ago a foal was left to die after a hit and run.
